A golfer’s career is a tough topsy-turvy ride of highs and lows and who better to tell that than PGA Tour pro Justin Day? From winning the US PGA Championship in 2015 to struggling with injuries that have kept him off the course, Day has faced his fair share of challenges. But despite the setbacks, he remains one of golf’s most respected and beloved players. Recently, Day opened up about a fascinating chapter in his career – his brief encounter with LIV Golf, the Saudi-backed breakaway league that’s been shaking up the golf world.
In the latest YouTube episode of Behind the Clubhouse, Day shared his side of the story, revealing that his agent had explored a potential move to LIV Golf. “I remember my agent coming to me and saying, ‘Hey, I’m going to have a chat with LIV because obviously he had players over there as well’,” Day recalled. When asked about his involvement in the discussions, Day said, “I said, I’d prefer not to be involved but it’s always nice to be able to know and see if there’s any like, as a business sense, it’s nice to be able to go and find out like what the potential could be and weigh those potentials.” As it turned out, Greg Norman, who was still in authority back then, decided to pass on Day due to concerns about his injury history. “They gave me a pretty easy out,” Day said. “Like, I was never intending to go across there anyways, and that was never my intention.”
Day acknowledged that he understands why LIV Golf made that decision. “To be honest, I understand it, like if I was in the same situation… well, this guy, he’s been injured a lot, you know, there’s a lot of money that we’re putting out there, and if he’s not playing, that would be a bad investment,” he admitted. Despite the rejection, Day is relieved that he didn’t have to weigh his options. He’s happy with his life on the PGA Tour and values the sense of purpose that golf gives him.

The injury-plagued career of Jason Day
Jason Day’s golf career has been a wild ride, with injuries playing a constant companion. Remember that time he collapsed on the course during the 2015 US Open due to vertigo? Yeah, that was a scary moment. But Day’s shown incredible grit and determination, finishing the round despite the pain and discomfort.
And that’s not all – he’s also dealt with chronic back problems, which became a major concern in 2016. His back issues had been raging for years, but it wasn’t until 2016 that they boiled over into a major issue. A tweaked back at the World Golf Championship-Dell Match Play had many observers wondering if Day’s career was about to take a drastic turn.

Day’s injuries continued to plague him, forcing him to withdraw from the 2019 Presidents Cup due to a back injury. But he finally turned a corner in 2022, overcoming his chronic back injuries and becoming pain-free. However, just as he seemed to have finally overcome his back issues, his vertigo came back to haunt him in 2023.
Despite the setbacks, Day remains one of the most talented and determined golfers on the circuit. His ability to bounce back from injury is a testament to his strength and character, and his victory at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson was a sweet relief after five years without a PGA Tour title. Even with all these injuries holding him back, do you think he can still prove to be one of the best golfers out there? Let us know in the comment section below!
