Phil Mickelson is a golf icon with 45 PGA Tour wins, including 6 major championships under his belt. The veteran has had a remarkable career since he joined the Tour in 1992, no two ways about that.

After the legend quit the PGA Tour last year to join LIV Golf, he has become a villain in the golf community. Now and then he is at the receiving end of harsh, bitter comments. But this time, things went a bit too far and Phil Mickelson could not hold back and came up with a massive retribution.

Phil Mickelson has played on the PGA TOUR for almost 30 years. The player made his debut in 1992 and won his first major championship at Masters 2004. Since then he has won two more Masters, two PGA Championships, and one Open Championship.

The lefty has also made 12 Ryder Cup appearances with 47 matches to his name, breaking the record set by Sir Nick Faldo (46 matches). He has scored 18-22-7 in his Ryder Cup appearances and was a vice-captain for the 2021 Ryder Cup. Mickelson has missed out on the 2023 edition because of his certain choices as well as poor performances.

Recently, a parody account (PGA TUOR) on Twitter (now X) quoted Phil on the ongoing Ryder Cup saying, “No. It’s just exhibition golf. How much money do the winners make? Exactly.” The golf fans took the comments to be coming from Phil Mickelson and started disparaging him without futher ado.

There were quite a few unsavory comments. One in particular attacked Mickelson’s character and remarked that his quotes say “more about him.” When the veteran came across this comment, he appeared to lose his cool and called the fan an idiot, emphasizing that the account was not genuine. That it had nothing to do with the PGA Tour account. This is not the first time the golfer has been condemned for the LIV Golf choice he made last year.

Let’s find out why Phil Mickelson joined LIV Golf in the first place. What drove him to join the Saudi-backed league?

However, this decision largely played a role in his absence in the ongoing event. Not long ago, he was accused of betting on the 2012 Ryder Cup. He has denied that claim. Speaking to Sports Illustrated, he clarified, “I never bet on the Ryder Cup, While it is well known that I always enjoy a friendly wager on the course, I would never undermine the integrity of the game.”
