Apparently, podcasts are where life-changing news gets delivered. At least that seems true in Joel Dahmen’s case. Dahmen was a guest on the Dan on Golf podcast where he recounted his career and exploits over the last few days. The golfer was asked serendipitously by the podcast host Dan Rapaport whether he is thinking of having another kid. The University of Washington alum hesitated a bit before making a decision and conveying some much-needed positive news on the personal front.

“I guess this might be the time and place for it, Dan. We are pregnant,” the one-time PGA Tour winner stated. The 37-year-old married Lona Skutt in 2018, after nearly six years of dating at the Royal Palms in Phoenix. The couple, already have one child, who was conceived through in vitro fertilization in 2023. The pro golfer shared a photo on Instagram with the caption, “It’s actually happening. Pray for us,”  when they received the news about the baby in 2022. Riggs William Dahmen came into the world in January 2022. “We had to go through IVF for the first time. This one is a miracle baby. It is quite a surprise.”  The golfer told Dan Rapaport candidly.

This is good news for the American golfer who has had a rough few days on the PGA Tour over the last few weeks. Dahmen missed the cut at the Valero Texas Open and the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. But in between, he competed at the Corales Puntacana Championship in the Dominican Republic, where he won his only PGA Tour title in 2021. He was leading the pack comfortably before doing the unthinkable. Dahmen stumbled hard by carding three straight bogeys and letting his lead slip to finish T2.

Speaking about his tough loss in the Dominican Republic, Dahmen did not mince words. “I think I’m in a little bit of shock, honestly. It’s not how you win a golf tournament, I’ll tell you that. I don’t deserve to win it. You know, bogeying the last three is inexcusable.” Dahmen stated after the fourth round. Dahmen had the fate of the event in his grasp, as he needed a birdie to claim an outright victory at Hole 18. Garrick Higgo, who was second then had already finished his rounds and was waiting for what could have been a potential playoff. Dahmen missed his putt for par, sparking joy for the South African.

This was right after the surprising miss at the 17th hole, where his putt for par lipped off leaving Dahmen in dire straits. The Corales Puntacana Championship summarises Dahmen’s 2025 PGA Tour perfectly. A topsy-turvy affair

Joel Dahmen’s 2025 season so far

The American pro has participated in twelve events so far and has made 6 cuts and missed 6 cuts. Perfectly balanced! His missed cuts are glaring, with Dahmen failing to play on the weekend at the Sony Open, the American Express event, the WM Phoenix Open, and the Valspar Championship along with the Valspar and the Zurich Classic. When he does make the weekend proceedings though, Dahmen seems to do exceptionally well.

Out of the 6 made cuts, Dahmen has finished in the top 20, four times, which includes a T9 at the Farmers Insurance Open and a T6 at the Mexico Open. He also finished T18 at the Texas Children’s Houston Open. Despite this run of form, the T2 at the Corales Puntacana Championship will sting considering it was an easily winnable situation. Dahmen will be looking to utilize the learnings from there to his advantage.
