In the last two months, Tom Kim has apologized more than winning an event. Unfortunately, his last victory came a year back at the Shriners Children’s Open, and since then, his frustration for a victory has grown. That’s why when the 22-year-old lost in a playoff against Byeong Hun An at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club in Incheon, South Korea, at the Genesis Championship, he took it all out on a door.
After congratulating An on his victory, Kim entered the locker room at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club and unhinged his locker door in frustration. He later stated his actions on Instagram and accepted his fault, but said, he had “no intent of damaging any part of the locker.” Surprisingly, the door was unhinged because he opened it with force instead of the allegations that he hit it per his statement.
There were no repercussions for the pro then, but the KPGA, which co-sanctioned the event, had said they would open a disciplinary proceeding against him. On Wednesday, November 6th, they did eventually hold the meeting but Kim was let loose without any fines or suspension. The Korea JoongAng Daily reported that the 3-time PGA Tour winner was not even present in the meeting and instead sent his agent when the KPGA Committee revealed that Kim “failed to maintain dignity.”

After frequent off-putting behaviors of Kim, fans called out on the South Korean pro to “grow up” and take responsibility for his actions. As it stands, in the last two months, it is not the first apology that the 22-year-old issued for his unruly and unexpected actions.

Tom Kim and his unending apologies
Two months ago at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, Tom Kim had one of the worst Sunday rounds at the TPC Southwind. He finished bogey-double-double in the last three holes, but his anger was seen at the par-4 12th hole. Kim missed a shot birdie putt and made a dent in the green. The crime became more frivolous as he forgot to repair it all.
And soon, the golf world started criticizing the pro. He issued an apology then and accepted that he was “clearly wrong” but also added that he wasn’t aware that he “had made that big of a damage.” This was August, then came September and another apology from Kim. This was when the Presidents Cup was going on.

Is Tom Kim's behavior a sign of passion or immaturity? How should the golf world respond?
Have an interesting take?
On the Saturday Foursomes, there was some altercation between the two teams and Kim revealed in the press conference that some players were cursing against him and his partner, Si Woo Kim. However, Xander Schauffele denied those claims. And following the defeat on Sunday, Kim shared that he had apologized to the 2-time major winner. He said, “‘I didn’t mean it to go in such a negative way’. If it did, I just said I’m sorry.” Things ended there but Kim’s behaviour didn’t. All three times, Kim has been let go without any punishments, but who knows the next time, he would have to pay at least some fine or punishment.
