Tom Kim had a stellar Sunday at the TPC Summerlin. Shooting a 5-under 66, the South Korean international edged over Canadian Adam Hadwin by one shot. This was the two-time-PGA-tour winner’s first victory in 2023, which came at the tail-end of a sublime season that saw him finish runner-up in the British Open and stun everyone at his Presidents Cup debut.
Kim’s title defense also saw him catch up with Tiger Woods‘ 27-year-old record. So, after his victory, the obvious question was how the 21-year-old was going to celebrate. It looks like the young golfer is not going to pop a bottle of champagne or throw a wild party at a Las Vegas nightclub. Instead, he has a ‘sweet’ wish that would make the Shriners’ children brim with joy!

Tom Kim successfully defended his title firing a last-round score of five-under-par at the Shriners Children’s Open, breaking and creating multiple records along the way. A grand victory deserves a grand celebration. But the South Korean international doesn’t take the beaten path.
Kim was asked at the press conference how he was going to celebrate his win. What does his schedule look like after this? Fans too were curious if the young sensation was planning to enjoy a vacation at Vegas. But he had other “exciting” plans.
The 21-year-old grinned from ear to ear as he revealed his plans to go straight home because he couldn’t wait to finish the piece of chocolate he left behind. “It’s gonna be exciting. I wanted to finish this so bad.” said a chuckling Kim with glittering eyes. It’s Ferrero Rocher’s white chocolate that he brought from his European trip, in case you were wondering.
🚨🍫🚂 Tom Kim on his victory plans: "I'm going to finish a piece of chocolate that I wanted to finish, then I'm going to order room service & go to bed, then wake up at 3:00 & take my 6:30AM flight. I can't wait to finish that chocolate." 🤣 @TomKimLegionpic.twitter.com/PQGSEng2Qu

Most athletes are known to forego chocolate, preferring only to snip a bite as a reward after achieving a goal. If Tom Kim also follows the same path, he has earned that reward full well. With this victory, the young golfer also equaled a Tiger Woods record that the legendary golfer set 27 years ago.
Kim touches Tiger Woods’ career milestone
Justin Ray of TwentyFirst Group tweeted earlier that Kim’s title defense would put him on the same pedestal as Tiger Woods in that, he would be the youngest 3-time PGA-Tour winner since the veteran won his third Tour title in 1997 at the Mercedes Championships.

He would be the youngest to successfully defend a title recognized by the Tour since John McDermott at the 1912 U.S. Open.

According to ESPN, the South Korean international has also become the first player since Byron Nelson to win the same event twice in a single calendar year. Kim’s photo has found a place in the long hallway wall at the TPC Summerlin alongside Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods.

After touching history at such a young age, if Kim wants to celebrate by munching on chocolates, who is gonna stop him? He can gobble an entire bar if he wants. Enjoy your reward, Kim!
