Has Brooks Koepka lost his major charm? After a stellar 2023 major season with a T2 finish at the Masters and claiming the fifth title at Oak Hill, expectations from him were high, but he has been failing so far. One shocking disappointment after another has been clouding Brooks Koepka’s major championship fate this season. He won last weekend in Singapore, and everyone thought that he would be coming in all riled up (in a good way) at Valhalla to defend his title. He had a rough day at the 2024 Masters, where he finished T45 with a score of 9-over-par. Now, history seems to be repeating itself in Kentucky. Koepka has concluded his play at the PGA Championship with a total score of 9-under-par.

At Augusta, Koepka’s son, Crew, was also there. He made his debut in the golf world and left everyone enthralled as Jena Sims shared pictures on Instagram. The dad golfer was also very excited to have his little boy there, but sadly, he could not perform as he wanted to and made an “embarrassing finish.” The wounds of disappointing his son, Crew Koepka, were still fresh. At Valhalla too, before the event, Jena Sims and Crew gave a surprise to the golfer by visiting him, and the golfer claimed it as the “best surprise.” But now he is disappointed.

Post his performance at the PGA Championship, Koepka was asked to assess his work. He shared his thoughts and said, “I don’t think finishing 30th is progress. Played good today, played good the other two days. Yesterday just didn’t have anything. Was kind of disappointed with the way I finished.” Furthering critiquing his play on Saturday, Koepka added, “Yesterday I don’t think I did one thing good at all. Usually when you play bad, you’ve got one thing that you do okay and you might putt bad or you might drive it bad. Yesterday was just a combination of everything.”

When asked to compare his performance on Saturday’s Round 3 and Sunday’s Round 4, Koepka made sure to point out the massive “8 shots” difference. It remains to be seen whether the Smash GC captain will succumb to the major curse that has been shadowing his 2024 season going ahead at the 2024 U.S. Open in Pinehurst or not. As of now, Koepka will be appearing at the US Open, as he has an exemption to compete in all the majors until 2028. What does the 5x major champion think of his play at the moment?

Brooks Koepka’s take on his future at Pinehurst

Despite not being able to meet his expectations at Valhalla, the LIV golfer continues to remain optimistic. While he was bothered by his performance on Saturday, the LIV Golf pro seemed more satisfied with his play on the other three days.

When asked about his plans to improve for Pinehurst’s U.S. Open, Koepka answered in a self-assured manner. He said, “I feel like I’m playing good. It’s just yesterday was just kind of unfortunate timing. But I felt like I’m playing all right. I missed a bunch of putts on Friday from inside like five feet, and then yesterday’s round was unfortunate. But other than that, I think I’m pretty close to right there.”

It remains to be seen whether the major curse will break Koepka’s trust in his current level of play, or Koepka will break the curse. Stay tuned to EssentiallySports for regular updates about the 2024 PGA Championship as the excitement unfolds at Valhalla!
