The entire golf world was taken aback by the shocking revelation of the amalgamation between Saudi PIF, LIV Golf, and the PGA Tour. The news came to light on the 6th of June and created mayhem in the sporting world. The announcement was well received by some people, and on the contrary, many people had their inhibitions about the union. The one thing that became the main reason for the backlash was the fact that the deal was kept a secret from the likes of PGA Tour loyalists, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy

Despite the backlash received from many corners, the PGA Tour Commissioner is now bestowed upon much-needed support from one of the significant tour pros, Davis Love III.

The 59-year-old pro has been an open critic of the Saudi-funded league ever since its inception. He once lashed out at LIV Golf for poaching PGA Tour players, and suggested that the league should drop its antitrust lawsuit in order for PGA Tour pros to even engage with the LIV defectors. The opposition towards the former rival league did not just stop here as the one-time major champion also suggested that the tour pros might just have to boycott the events if LIV golfers would play in them. But now it seems, the tables for the veteran golfer have turned, or so it seems from his recent show of support for the merger.

The 21-times PGA Tour winner has recently posted a letter on social media to show his support to Jay Monahan, amidst all the backlash that he has been facing. In his open letter addressed to the PGA Tour commissioner, players, sponsors, and tour staff, the golfer has asked everyone to be “patient” and trusting of the decision that has been taken.

Commenting on the PGA Tour’s incredible growth, the golfer wrote, “This growth has only been possible because our commissioners and the Independent Board Directors have always guided us to sound business decisions, and player input has been central to those decisions, as the Player Directors have an equal voice and votes, to approve or deny our path forward.’’

He showed his confidence in Monahan’s decisions and said that the best things for the tour, fans, players, staff, and sport can be achieved if everyone maintains unity in this situation.

It seems that Davis Love III has forgotten about his harsh remarks against the Saudi League! Love is not the only one who has expressed his stern stance about the $3 billion merger.

In the letter shared by Golf Digest, Watson raised many significant questions about the deal and what it meant for the players. He also raised concern about the secrecy in which the deal was made, and the fact that the deal was not vetted by any of the players on the board.
