Ted Scott's Presidents Cup performance—Is he the unsung hero of the golf world?

Scottie Scheffler is the World No. 1 golfer, he can move the ball left and right, up and down. He can get out of a bunker with grace and make a birdie putt with poise. His skills may shine on the golf course, but it’s his caddie, Ted Scott, who steals the show with his dance floor moves and fighting abilities.

A day after defending Scheffler’s wife from an abusive fan, the veteran caddie of the best golfer in the world was recently seen busting out the moves on the course during the golfer’s Presidents Cup Sunday Singles round. The music was a loud techno piece and Ted Scott’s moves were those of a man dancing without any worry about anyone’s judgment.

Scottie Scheffler was playing World No. 7 Hideki Matsuyama in the 3 match of the day. Matsuyama went on to win the match by one hole after battling from behind on the front 9. The tense match turned at the 7 hole when Scheffler parred the par 3 and Matsuyama birdied. The lead was then exchanged once more on the 13 hole. Matsuyama then won four of the last five holes to gain a point for the Internationals.

His win, nonetheless, was in vain as the Americans won 6 out of the 12 matches and tied 3. The points were added to the 11 already accumulated and made it a final winning score of 18.5 to 11.5. Scottie Scheffler was a constant danger for the International team, winning decisively in 4 of the 5 matches he played. However, on the third day of the tournament, things took a very violent turn. A fan’s derogatory remarks against Scheffler’s wife triggered Ted Scott, turning him into a menace.

While Scottie Scheffler was looking at the numbers on his pad, a man standing in the stands hurled abuses towards the golfer’s wife, Meredith Scheffler. Scottie Scheffler was stunned and angry, but Ted Scott was furious. The looper jumped the ropes and confronted the fan from the white picket fence. Scott, who is practically a family member, and a trusted companion to Scheffler, quickly came to the defense of the golfer’s wife.

Moreover, Scottie Scheffler’s father had apparently overheard the comment and wasted no time in confronting the man. Later, it was confirmed that the ill-mannered ‘fan’ was removed from the premises of the club.

Other than that, there is not much known about the incident, and neither Scheffler nor his parents have spoken about it. Ultimately, it showed what a loyal friend and companion Ted Scott is to the Scheffler’s, willing to protect their honor and dignity.
