This year’s Ryder Cup Captain, Zach Johnson, is the most sought-after person in golf right now. With the tremendous responsibility of leading his team at the Ryder Cup, he will also be making huge decisions regarding some players’ fate. However, it looks like PGA Tour players are not the only ones up for a place.
Johnson is yet to choose Captain’s picks and here he could play his ace. Though he has earlier shown his disapproval towards including LIV players, Zach could end up choosing them after all. In his recent interview, Johnson has given a big statement.

When the LIV Defectors joined the Saudi Backed league, they did it filled with happiness But for many players, their one regret was the inability to play at the Ryder Cup. After its initial restriction, the European Tour allowed the defectors to play for the Ryder Cup, should they qualify.
But, so far no one from the LIV team has been able to qualify yet, but it looks like someone’s dream might get fulfilled in the form of the Captain’s pick. Johnson has 6 spots in his hands for which he will be individually selecting his players and he could make a selection there.
With his latest statement, Johnson is indicating that he is extending his horizon beyond the PGA Tour. On his appearance at the Sub Par podcast, he answered who his 6 pucks will be. He said, “Americans. 6 Americans, Born in the United States. And probably on the PGA TOUR, but not necessarily.”

This is definitely a change of tune in Johnson who was earlier strictly against the possibility of including the LIV golfers in his team.
Is this a subtle indication of the LIV Golfers to let them know that they still stand a chance?
What did Zach Johnson earlier say about having LIV golfers on his team?
While speaking at the conference for PGA Championship in May, Johnson expressed some strong disregard for the LIV players. When asked if his wildcard could be from LIV, he said, “There’s maybe a couple guys that have come close to securing their spot in the top six but when it comes to picks, it’s not even on my radar. Especially given how many points are still out there.”

He said that it is not on his radar at the time. Later, when he was asked if a LIV player would have the say if he makes it to the Top-6, he said “Yeah, he’s on the team. He’s got direct ownership in that, absolutely.“
Johnson must have noticed that LIV holds a strong league of players who could aid him on the ground. Well, LIV golfers will be more than happy to bag this golden opportunity.
