Viktor Hovland stole the show on and off course at this year’s Ryder Cup. First, the Norwegian star took an unlikely partner on a ‘date night’ ahead of the patriotic tournament. Then, Hovland along with Scandinavian teammate Ludvig Aberg hammered the last nail in the coffin of the USA’s Ryder Cup dream.
So, how did the MVP of the European squad celebrate his victory? Turns out he treated himself to a nice little holiday on a tiny little island. If that got you asking “With whom?” the answer will surprise you. Recently, the six-time PGA-tour winner came for a quick chat at the Smylie Show and revealed what he has been up to since the Ryder Cup exploits.

European captain Luke Donald decided to play Hovland in all five sessions of the Ryder Cup. The Norwegian paid a dividend by securing 3.5 points from a possible five. You are allowed to take some time off after such a performance right? He did just that. “I went back home to Norway after the Ryder Cup. Didn’t really touch a club that whole week,” revealed the PGA Tour pro.
Instead, he went on a vacation with his mother to the shores of Malta. If you had a hard time finding it on the map, let the Norwegian star clear it up for you, “It’s a small island just off the coast of Sicily and other islands. So it’s not that far from Rome, where we just were a couple of weeks ago.”
But why Malta of all places? Turns out the 26-year-old golfer is also a history buff and a fan of the Netflix show ‘Ancient Apocalypse’. “It’s got a lot of, you know, old ancient temples that I watched from Ancient Apocalypse”. So, the pro golfer decided to fly from his cozy home at Stillwater to Malta. “I just figured, Hey, me and my mom can have an enjoyable time on the island. Enjoy the heat. And we can also check out some cool things.”
Not the first thing that will come to our mind, but Viktor Hovland is not your average golfer. The two-time European Tour winner listens to death metal, which his teammates find ‘horrendous’ and ‘evil.’ But he is also the sweetest guy who takes his Vice Captain on a ‘date’.
Hovland’s unlikely ‘partner’ on the Spanish Steps
Ryder Cup had a gala night before the tournament where players were expected to bring their dates. Viktor Hovalnd being the only single member in the squad was put on the spot. But the Norwegian’s quick wit left everyone in splits.
While his teammates were spotted walking with their WAGs by their side, the European Pro descended the Spanish Steps in Rome holding Ryder Cup legend and European vice-captain, Jose Maria Olazabal’s hand. He also posed with the WAGs of all the teammates after the win!

While the 26-year-old can sure do with a little less attention and a little more privacy, given his popularity among fans, this will hardly put a stop to the dating speculations.
