While everyone is hooked on golf’s biggest-ever merger, there are various elements left to be sorted out. Among them is the introduction of TGL and its impact on the tour, which was headed by golf icons Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy themselves.
However, with all players under the same umbrella organization, what is set to happen with the tech-infused league? A series that was made to rival the LIV Golf Series, is it still a viable option moving forward?

Last year, two of the most recognizable faces in golf came together for an initiative – a league of sorts. Of course, it was in association with the PGA Tour, which lauded the efforts of Woods and McIlroy to welcome a brand-new idea into the game.
The TGL venture was launched by TMRW Sports, which promised to bring the latest technology, a giant simulator, and a fan-friendly format to add a new aspect to professional golf.
According to the earliest reports, the format was set to hit the stage from January 2024. It was supposed to be played on Monday nights at the state-of-the-art Palm Beach State College. Some of the best players had signed for the league, with the format consisting of five teams of three golfers each.

The venture is backed by a number of world-class athletes. From F1 legend Lewis Hamilton to tennis icon Serena Williams, several well-known members had come together to invest in the business.
Alas, while the concept of TGL hasn’t diminished, its value certainly has. The PGA Tour certainly modeled it as a rival to the breakaway LIV Golf Series. However, the announcement of the merger leaves the newly-formed organization without a nemesis, which makes TGL redundant in that aspect.
However, it can still create significant interest from fans worldwide. The league is promised to be infused with the latest technological advancements, which feature putting greens and high-tech simulators.

Furthermore, the support of Woods, McIlroy, and other athletes, in association with the PGA Tour, can help TGL and the golf union to elevate viewership, something golf has achieved over the years.
