While the 2023 Open Championship was as exciting as they come, it also turned out to be a bit of a nightmare for the golfers playing, especially because of the new 17th hole named ‘little eye.’ While some players were able to pull through and cement their place at the top, the others went through a nerve-racking experience at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club. The hole, laden with dangers, bought many problems to the pro golfers as they struggled to find a way around it or in this case, into it.

While the new hole at Hoylake had made a mess out of many players, a similar situation was spotted at the Senior Open which is set to start from July 27. What’s more surprising is that a senior pro golfer was seen practicing at the hole which left many in the golfing community bewildered.

As the Royal Porthcawl Golf Club gets ready to host Europe’s only Senior Major Championship, the senior pro golfers are in for a surprise. A similar hole like that of the 17th hole at Hoylake, has been caught sight of at the South Wales Venue. In another surprise of sorts, German professional golfer Bernhard Langer, was seen making the hole seem as if it was nothing but a breeze.

In the video uploaded on Twitter, Langer was seen chipping the ball from the deep bunker to the green many times. The golfer was practicing his shots ahead of the championship. While the recent post showed him making the shot five times, it is unsure but highly likely that the 65-year-old has practiced it a multiple number of times making him a strong contender for the upcoming tournament.

The German golfer has been compared with Tiger Woods on a number of occasions. While drawing parallels between the two, the golfer was once termed as the Champions Tour’s Tiger Woods as he built his own legacy in the game of golf. The form and technique that the senior pro golfer has shown at this age resulting in his remarkable performance, is enough to make him a GOAT alongside arguably the greatest player that the game has ever seen. Moreover, his recent win at the 2023 U.S. Seniors Open with a score of 7-under-par 277, stands testimony to this comparison.

The infamous ‘Little Eye’ at Hoylake

While the tricky bunker in the upcoming Senior Open looked like a piece of cake after watching Langer, the same could not be said for the infamous 17th hole in the recent 2023 Open Championship. Even before the start of the tournament, the hole had drawn in much opinion from the golfing world.

The short hole was a danger of sorts as it was covered with bunkers on both sides which would induce penalties. Moreover, it had a sandy wasteland in front of the green which made it much hard for the players. Short by modern standards, the penultimate par-3 hole along with the erratic winds messed up many a chance for a lot of players as they struggled to drive the ball into the green. In short, the hole got to the players mentally and was a major factor in deciding the winner of the tournament.
