There are not many accomplishments in the golfing world that Tiger Woods has missed. From all the major championships to international tournaments, Woods has hoisted his flag at almost all events. He has been the world’s number one many times. But there is one place where he falls behind, and it cannot be achieved because time has passed.

From a very young age, Woods had a very adventurous amateur and professional career. However, despite winning many events as an amateur player, he couldn’t become the world’s top amateur player. And now the newest name that has beat Woods to this accomplishment has important news to share.

Born in 2003 in Alabama and playing since the age of nine, Gordon Sargent has had an impressive career as an amateur golfer. He won the Alabama State Junior Championship in 2019, the Alabama State Amateur twice in 2020 and 2021, Mossy Oak Collegiate, NCAA Division I Individual Championship in 2022, and the John Hayt Invitational, Mason Rudolph Championship in 2023.

In February 2023, he became the number 1 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. And now the PGA Tour has declared that he will be able to take up full PGA Tour membership following the end of the NCAA Championship next spring. He met the 20-point requirement for PGA Tour University Accelerated by playing in the first round of the World Amateur Team Championship today in Abu Dhabi.

Once the NCAA Championship finishes in late May, Sargent will be able to play in the 2024 remaining season and the year after that. Praising him, Jay Monahan said, “Since winning the NCAA Championship as a freshman, Gordon has consistently proven himself as one of the top amateurs in the game, and he’s very deserving of becoming the first underclassman to earn PGA Tour membership through PGA Tour University Accelerated.”

He continued, “We look forward to welcoming him to the PGA Tour after he concludes his collegiate career at Vanderbilt.” Gordon really has achieved an impressive feat that wasn’t enjoyed by Tiger Woods.

Tiger Woods could never become the World’s top amateur golfer

Woods showed signs of being a prodigy from a very young age. He won the Junior World Championships six times, out of which there were four consecutive years from 1988 to 1991. At the age of 15, while he was studying in high school, he became the youngest U.S. Junior Amateur champion, and this record was maintained until 2010. And he achieved so much more, but he was never able to become the world’s #1 amateur.
