Can Lauren Coughlin pull off a Trevino triple at the Women's British Open? What do you think?

Lauren Coughlin has been the talk of the town for quite a while now. Why, you ask? Well, because of her latest LPGA wins. The golfer proved herself to be the best when she won the Freed Group Women’s Scottish Open with a score of 15 under par in a field full of amazing golfers like Megan Khang and Charley Hull. Apart from the incredible trophy, she also received a fat check of $300,000.

However, the golfer is not resting just yet. According to the show Whiskey Made Me Say It on YouTube, Coughlin has quite a few plans set for her future. Coughlin recently visited the Golf Cast YouTube show and gave some glimpses as to what she wishes to achieve shortly.

Coughlin’s caddie, Terry McNamara, has been playfully yet seriously planting a seed in her mind. According to the golfer, her caddie suggested that she could replicate Lee Trevino’s impressive feat of winning three Opens in a row within four weeks. “Well, Terry has been joking as not joking, but kind of just putting in my head. You know, even before Canada, that Lee Trevino won three opens in a row in a four-week stretch”, said the Coughlin. Trevino won the Canadian Open, the U.S. Open, and the British Open in a row.

She has two wins in her bag already, first Coughlin won the CP Women’s Open after she carded 13 under in late July (25th-28th), and now she has won the Scottish Open, after two weeks. With the AIG Open scheduled from  Aug 22-25, she can truly make the Open hattrick. McNamara often mentions how Trevino achieved this impressive streak in hopes that it will ignite the same fire in Coughlin. But Lee Trevino’s feat is not that easy to achieve, as only one golfer has been able to achieve it.

A glimpse into Lee Trevino’s legendary career

Amazing people do amazing things. And that was exactly the case with Lee Trevino. Trevino served in the US Marine Corps from 1956 to 1960 and discovered his passion for the sport when he started playing golf with his fellow officers. The golfer joined the PGA Tour in 1967. And man, did he make some history after that?

Apart from his exceptional wins, Trevino was also a member of six Ryder Cup teams and captain in 1985. That’s not all; he was also inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1981. But the most memorable victory of all was when Trevino made history in 1971. He won the PGA Tour’s three oldest events in a single year! Yes, the U.S. Open, the Canadian Open, and the British Open—all of them in the same year! The golfer lobes to play and even at the age of 84, he still plays golf, “I loved to hit balls. I still go out every morning and hit balls for two-three hours.”

Have an interesting take?

It’s been 53 years since Trevino made history and after him, no player has been able to do the same, except for the GOAT.  Tiger Woods won the big threes in 2000. He won the 2000 Canadian Open with a score of 22 under par, the U.S. Open with a 15-stroke margin, and then the 2000 Open Championship with an excellent score of 19 under par at St. Andrews.
