Bryson DeChambeau vs. Rory McIlroy: Who's the real king of golf in this heated rivalry?

It was McIlroy’s ‘messy life’ that Chubby Chandler pinned as his downfall. His verdict stated that Rory McIlroy needed better focus to improve as a sportsman. “Rory’s played fantastically for ten years, he just doesn’t take any chances,” said Chandler once. He did not forget to mention that the PGA Tour has also pulled the rug from under him as a bigger blow. In fact, McIlroy’s former agent did not hesitate to publicly blame his marriage problems as a cause of his downfall either. However, regarding McIlroy’s nemesis from Pinehurst No. 2, Chandler flipped to an all-praise and appreciation outlook.

It is not just Bryson DeChambeau’s US Open win that Chandler holds in high regard. The former English professional golfer, Andrew Chandler, revealed the output of a makeover that DeChambeau had undergone.

In a recent post shared by Flushing It on their X handle, Rory McIlroy‘s former agent Andrew Chandler called Bryson DeChambeau a blue-collar hero. That’s right, DeChambeau’s profession requires him out on the field, but his blue-collar can be taken quite literally too. The outfits chosen by the two-time Major Champion are mostly comprised of blue, and to the fans, they often represent their golf hero. Along with that, Chubby Chandler also compared the LIV golfer with Arnold Palmer.

“I was brought up on Arnold Palmer, and I think Bryson DeChambeau is a blue-collar hero like Arnold Palmer was. And maybe one day he’ll be called ‘Mr. DeChambeau’,” said Chandler. He drew attention to how DeChambeau’s growth in the game might look similar to that of the mighty 7-time major champion, Arnold Palmer.

However, he also added exactly why he chose to make such a comparison. He said, “I don’t know. But I think they’re very similar in how they play the game. I think their outlook is good. I think they’re unbelievably good for the game.” Chandler said DeChambeau and Palmer were built too well for the game. However, he was further impressed by DeChambeau’s personality after his success.

While McIlroy’s ex-agent only complained about his lifestyle as something messy and unfocused, Chubby Chandler has not been taking chances either. However, he observed that Dechambeau had a completely different approach to the game. He pointed out his makeover and his present success as an output of the same. He said, “Bryson, in the last 12 months, has had a complete makeover, hasn’t he? What’s he like now?”

DeChambeau: a winner like never before

As an agent and by the line of his career in golf for a prolonged time, Andrew Chandler has seen countless wins. Out of which he has been part of almost 100 times, as he claims, none has shown such a humane and amiable side as Bryson DeChambeau has done following his US Open win this season. Chandler revealed, “I think I was involved in maybe 80-100 wins. I never thought of taking the trophy in the crowd.”

But when it comes to DeChambeau, his trophy was celebrated by his fans, his colleagues at LIV Golf, and even its CEO, Greg Norman, who was trending for hoisting the cup in a private lunch with Bryson DeChambeau. Thus, Chubby Chandler explored his marvel at such a stunt. He said, “As soon as he did it, I thought, I never thought of doing that, and that was such a cool thing. And people related to it, didn’t they? I think he’s great for the sport, and I think he’s great to watch.” Although LIV Golf has faced quite some controversy regarding its viewership, no one can disagree that when DeChambeau swings, the whole golf world pours all its attention in.
