The second season of the fledgling LIV Golf came to a close at the LIV Miami event. The $50 million season finale saw Bryson DeChambeau’s Crushers GC win the team championship to claim a $14 million prize. A disclaimer first. Yes, you need to wait a few more months to see the entire field of LIV Golf pros go against each other. But hey, you can still watch your favorite stars gracing the greens at different tournaments before that. For example, at the 2023 Hong Kong Open later this week.
Season champions Talor Gooch, Patrick Reed, Graeme McDowell, Harold Varner III, Cameron Smith, and Thomas Pieters, LIV Golf’s who’s-who are all heading to the Hong Kong Golf Club on 9th November. Undoubtedly, for the players, it’s a chance to rekindle their camaraderie after the 2023 season ended last month.
Notably, in the PIF-funded league, Gooch plays alongside Varner III and Pieters at the Rangegoats GC. For the 31-year-old golfer, who topped the season-long leaderboard, friendship with Varner III was one of the big reasons for switching to Rangegoats GC as he revealed in a conversation with the tournament’s official website.
Hong Kong Open, being played for the first time since 2020, is a bonus for LIV Golf fans after the season-ender at Miami. But that also begs the question, what’s next for Greg Norman’s upstart league in 2024?
