The golf world was hyped for the return of Tiger Woods in a PGA Tour event, and the Hall of Famer did not disappoint. Despite his physical struggles, Woods had a decent performance with certain highlight-worthy putts. After a successful conclusion to the event, another positive news regarding the legendary golfer was revealed, only making his 2022-23 season look more promising.

Apart from hosting it, Tiger also competed at Genesis Invitational. While Jon Rahm’s astonishing -17 may have left many speechless, Woods’ four under par in the third round also impressed plenty of people. However, he failed to maintain a similar form on the tournament’s final day, ending the tournament tied to the 45th position.

Now, the finish may not have been as Tiger expected it to be. But he does have something to cherish from the cruel ending to his PGA Tour event.

Tiger Woods is back on the top 1000

Prior to the Genesis Invitational, Woods hadn’t competed in any PGA Tour event apart from the Majors for nearly three years. His last participation came at the 2020 ZOZO Championship. His absence from the sport which he once conquered moved him to below the best 1000 golfers in the world.

The Hall of Famer was at the 1294th rank in the Official World Golf Rankings. Nonetheless, following his tied to 45th position finish at Riviera Country Club, Tiger Woods is now ranked at 985, jumping over nearly 300 places to find his place back among the 1000 best golfers. Albeit, the ranking may not be as glamorous as he once held. It acts as a stepping stone for the positive flow to the 2023 year for the 15-time Major winner.

Woods is reported to compete in more events this year along with the Majors. While his previous two seasons have been hijacked by an injury in his right leg due to his car accident in February 2021, the golfer hopes to climb back the ranking chart despite limping most of the events. Tiger’s performance at Genesis Invitational proved the Hall of Famer still has a lot left in the tank.

Though consistency remains a challenge for Woods, he looks to overcome it in the forthcoming PGA Tour events. Perhaps, he would as well be among the top 100 golfers after the conclusion of the Masters in April.
