The greens at Los Angeles North Course haven’t exactly been merciful. Many golfers for the two rounds of the 123rd US Open have found it difficult to tame the field. While some of the players have been able to make the debutant course dance to their tune, others have found it relatively difficult to showcase their optimum skills.

This includes some of the biggest names from the industry, the players who have conquered majors and experienced high success. Alas, this time they were met with many vicissitudes. Particularly, the former world No.1 Justin Thomas, who failed to even make the cut at the US Open. Despite such a disheartening end to the third major of the season, there is a break in the clouds for JT.

As the golf world ends the second day of the US Men’s Open with Rickie Fowler leading the scoreboard, the cut for this season’s tournament has also been applied. Only the top 60 scorers (including ties) on the leaderboard will proceed to the next rounds of the game. Currently, 65 players have made it through.

Alas! Justin Thomas isn’t one of them. In fact, many pre-eminent athletes have failed to enter rounds 3 and 4 of the US Open. Some of these professionals are Phil Mickelson, Jordan Spieth, Justin Rose, and Max Homa. However, as per the recent update, there is some good news for the golfers who missed the cut.

Writer, Dylan Dethier, informed the viewers through the online platform, “Every pro who misses the cut gets $10,000!“. He also mentioned that at most golf events, not being able to make the cut, implies no payment “at all“. Though, this time the situation will be different. A silver lining has been presented by the USGA for the golf professionals who found themselves below the 2 over par.

Although, we are not sure if this will provide enough relief to the golfers. After all, the majors are more than just prize money, they represent the battle of talent and skills. Most probably these stellar players would be reflecting on their game and hoping to make a powerful return.

Especially, JT who appeared to be quite disheartened because of his performance. The emotions make complete sense as he has been one of the best golfers in the world. And the numbers at the LACC definitely don’t represent his prime form.

A dreadful 2023 season continues for Justin Thomas

One of the most anticipated weeks of golf started with a bang with Rickie Fowler and Xander Schauffele. But, the things at the rear end of the leaderboard weren’t any less noticeable. The scorecard of Justin Thomas was one of the prime examples of this. The professional who is known across the golf world for his skills and holds numerous titles, was one of the tail-end players.

His tie for the 153rd spot in the 156-man field was the golfer’s second-worst score on the greens. Neither of the days at the North Course was exactly easy for Thomas, he struggled evidently as he carded 11-over 81. JT informed the press that this has been “the lowest he has felt“.  The reason was glaring quite palpably at the professional.

He conceded seven bogeys and three double bogeys. Although the athlete managed to make two birdies, those did not really help him climb on the board. Overall, the 2023 season hasn’t been very fruitful for Thomas. The other two majors also did not reflect the talent JT possesses. He missed the cut at Augusta and ended up at T65 at the PGA Championship.

Now, as the last major championship of the season approaches, Justin Thomas would hope to turn the tables around in Scotland. We will also wish for JT to find his form once more and dominate the greens. Meanwhile, the greens in LA are not done delivering the action. Two more days of some powerful driving and clever putting are left.
