The Shootout tournament is a golf event that takes place on the PGA Tour as an unofficial money event. Since its creation in 1989, Norman has been the host of the event. However, since his involvement in LIV Golf, Norman’s participation in this year’s edition of the tournament was still in doubt.
Nonetheless, the PGA Tour has decided to not invite the Australian Hall of Famer for the 2022 Shootout Tournament. Being the host and a participant for the past 33 years, Norman shared his dismay with the American Tour on Instagram.

In several pictures captured over the past three decades at the tournament, Norman shared some glimpses of the event with a long caption below to portray his sorrow. The 67-year-old first mentioned how he is unhappy with his former Tour for not being invited. He then speaks on the LIV Golf endeavor that has led to PGA Tour’s decision.

Greg Norman wrote, “Perhaps it is because I am helping to give golf a new heartbeat, creating new value and delivering a new product that is loved by players, fans and broadcasters alike. And in doing so, finally giving players their rights as independent contractors to benefit from their performance and brand. In some people’s mind this is too disruptive and evolution is perceived as a bad thing. I disagree- competition breeds excellence”.

The Shark claims that the Saudi-backed Tour is bringing a new golf product to the world of sports. Moreover, he thanked the QBE, the sponsor of the charity tournament, which has raised nearly $15 million to eradicate childhood cancer. Norman also thanked the Shootout charities, the City of Naples, and the corporate sponsors at the end of his post.
Though the founder, Greg Norman, won’t be allowed to take part in the event, the Shootout Challenge will take place in Tiburón Golf Club, which was designed by Norman himself. He may not be part of the tournament, but his contribution to the event would not be under-looked. But at the end of the day, the Shark is a LIV defector.
