Luke Donald made the difficult decision to pick six players for his captain’s picks, and his call to pick Shane Lowry over Adrian Meronk for the team received a lot of criticism. LIV golfer Richard Bland also pointed out the pick and received a lot of support from the fans for giving a voice to what everyone was probably thinking.
Despite being a winner on the same course as the 2023 Ryder Cup, Meronk was not selected for the European squad. The golfer finished tied for 13th place in OEM’23 and is now competing in the Horizon Irish Open, worth $6 million. The golfer talked about his emotional roller coaster ride in the last 48 hours during a pre-tournament conference.
The DPWT pro said, “It’s been emotional time for me, to be honest, from shock to sadness to anger, and now I’m trying to turn it into motivation going into this week.” He also said this decision has been a “hard one to swallow,” as he thought that he had done enough to fix his spot on the team. Talking about what he will do now, the golfer said, “I will just focus on my game and move forward.”
Not only sad or shocked, the 3X DPWT winner said that he kind of stopped listening on the phone call when he was told that he had not been selected for the team. Not only did the Polish golfer discuss his feelings, but he also remembered the call he received telling him about the decision.

Adrian Meronk remembers the dreadful, shocking phone call
The 30-year-old golfer shared that receiving a call was not a shocking event, as he was told that he would be getting one in both scenarios, that is, him making it to the team and him not making it to the team. He shared that he was in “quite a good mood” as he was on his way back from Switzerland, but the call put him in a frustrating mood.
The 2022 Irish Open winner said he was purely in a state of “shock” as this was not the call he was expecting. He again reiterated that he thought that his chances of being on the team were high, but “it was a quite shocking call” that he received.
