Do you think Adam Scott's expensive mistake is a common issue among pro athletes?

Adam Scott was young—by young, we mean 21 summers young. The Australian was one of the hottest rising talents in professional golf. It was 2001. The former Las Vegas Rebel was chosen as a Rolex Testimonee, just a year after turning pro. He was not yet a full-time PGA Tour member then.

But being picked by Rolex is a big event in itself, and Scott couldn’t resist the urge to pick a luxury watch—a pink gold Day-Date with a black dial. Two decades later, Scott can now laugh about it.

In a chat with Golf.com’s Claire Rogers, the former world no.1, pointing to his Rolex, joked,  “This is actually the first Rolex I even got. I was 21 years old. I picked like a, gold watch. I don’t know what I was thinking.

Scott surely thought about the history of Rolex and its ties with golf. The journey of Rolex Testimonies started with Arnold Palmer. Subsequently, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player also joined the team.

Previously in a chat with Gulf Business, Adam Scott revealed, “When I first became a Testimonee, I got the opportunity to choose a timepiece. I was 21 years old, and I chose a pink gold Day-Date with a black dial. I still wear that.”

Now, Rolex is one brand that cuts across the PGA Tour-LIV Golf divide. Currently, Scottie Scheffler, Rickie Fowler, and Jon Rahm are some of the bigwigs sponsored by Rolex. Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, Justin Thomas, and others are Rolex Ambassadors. Woods’s Rolex Collection has always been the talk of the town. Whereas, Rose Zhang and Lydia Ko are two ‘Rolex Testimonees’ from the LPGA Tour.

For Scott, though, it’s a guilty pleasure, of sorts. He has around two dozen Rolex timepieces, including the Everose gold and steel GMT-Master II. Still, he can’t stop himself from picking up more.

Adam Scott and his luxury watch collection

Scott doesn’t hide the fact that he is tempted to buy more Rolex timepieces. The vintage ones actually get his attention more. Not too long ago, the former Masters champion was in Muirfield Village for the Memorial. During a practice session, an alert went off on his phone for an auction. He was in the middle of the 11th fairway then. But it’s Rolex, right? “I ended up winning the bid for the watch having eyed it for quite some time,” Day later recalled.

Scott was also given a Rolex Sky-Dweller in 2013, the year he donned the Green Jacket at Augusta National. Quite fitting for someone who travels the world for golf. It indicates two time zones simultaneously. “I like that watch, but I tend to wear smaller watches like the Rolex Day-Date,” the 14-time PGA Tour winner added. He appreciates the complexity, but currently, his eyes are set on something minimal.
