Jordan Spieth has done it again! No, he hasn’t won THE PLAYERS Championship 2025. The Texan is far from it after his 54 holes. However, what he has done is riled up the golf community with his actions. Spieth has been getting a lot of heat recently due to his attitude towards professional golf. The reason? He was expecting an exemption at the 2025 Arnold Palmer Invitational. Fans were shocked to learn that the Dallas local tried to get into the signature event without having qualified on merit.
This time around, Spieth is playing in a PGA Tour event. THE PLAYERS Championship 2025 at TPC Sawgrass is hosting him and 143 other players for an exciting contest. Many would have assumed that the 3x major winner would be grateful to be a part of the event. But his actions in the third round is raising questions about his attitude on the greens.
Spieth arrived at the par-5 16th with five birdies and four bogies to his name. The wind was picking up. His drive found the middle of the fairway, but it all came unglued a while later when Spieth pulled out his fairway metal and attempted to go for the green in two. His shot fell well short and that meant that it sank in the lake nearby and it led to whipping his club halfway to Tallahassee. Famed journalist, Kyle Porter shared a video of the incident.

Spieth would go on to double bogey the hole, He found dry land on 17 and 18, par-ing his way home with the help of a round-the-world lip-in on 18. But the damage was done. The water ball took Spieth from a respectable one-under to a disappointing one-over, nine shots of back of the pace.
“I just can’t make the mistake on 16,” he said. “I just necked it and if I do make par at that hole 4 under is probably the top 20 by the end of the day; instead, I’ll finish at 2, so, I’ve had a couple swings that were a couple shots this week and the guys who are at the top, don’t make those,” Spieth said later. But hasn’t thrown his club on a previous occasion as well?

Remember 2016 US Open? In the opening round of the tournament, he had vented his frustration in a similar way after a seemingly perfect approach shot on the 17th hole rolled all the way across the green and trickled down into a bunker. When Spieth’s ball lands and starts to spin back, it looks like it will settle close to the hole for a very makeable birdie putt. But the course was Oakmont, one of the hardest courses that is brutally fast.
John McEnroe sound-alike couldn’t believe it, and let his frustration out by giving his club a toss at his bag. “You’ve GOT to be kidding me! How is that in the bunker!” he yelled after his second shot on the par-4, which Spieth was playing as the 8th hole. Golf fans might not have forgotten the incident. Watching him do the same attracted heavy criticism and they didn’t shy away from speaking their minds.

Jordan Spieth’s actions infuriate the golf community once again
Jordan Spieth’s frustration was justified. But the way he let his emotions take over in front of the fans and on live television is absurd, as someone commented, “Rude and uncalled-for! Please delete!” The bizarre incident seems to have triggered the fans deeply as they requested Porter to take it down from X. We hope he doesn’t as others also need to see what Spieth has done at TPC Sawgrass.
The angry outburst of Spieth was quite ungentlemanly. In fact, one of the fans also stated that he is “still acting like a child I see.” They were probably referring to the 13x PGA Tour winner’s demand for getting sponsor exemptions at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill.
The news was particularly shocking to fans as Spieth and Fowler have already received sponsor exemptions at the last two signature events on the PGA Tour schedule in 2025. These were the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines. The result, you may ask? Well, Spieth finished T-69 at the AT&T and MC’d for the Genesis.
Another fan stated, “He probably blamed the club for his shitty shot. All he does is complain. It’s probably why nobody cares how he does.” The PGA Tour pro has made a lot of complaints recently. Arnold Palmer‘s grandson faced a lot of heat because Spieth complained about not getting into the Signature event a few days ago.

To top that, this is not happening for the first time. In 2019, the eighth hole at Pebble Beach saw an ugly moment unfold. The 31-year-old had bogeyed the difficult par 4 after hitting one shot in the water while the other one landed over the green. And as you would’ve guessed, once the second shot went long, Spieth unleashed his wrath on his longtime caddie Michael Greller. “Two perfect shots, Michael,” Spieth said. “You got me in the water on one and over the green on the other.”
And once it hit social media, the flurry of criticism Spieth received was something. The saving grace? The golfer later clarified that it was indeed frustration and not blame. Oh well, the damage was already done by then.
And the current disorderly behavior of Jordan Spieth was truly disappointing for everyone, as one comment read, “He’s a sad man.” Frankly, the American golfer’s desperation has been quite upsetting. He even got himself an exemption in the 2025 Cognizant Classic for the first time in 12 years just so he could try to grab a win against a weaker field.

Speaking strictly of his desperate attempt to get on the green at TPC Sawgrass, one fan stated, “Wind blowing right still didnt even save him.” To be frank, it was only his second shot in a par 5. Spieth could have gone with playing a safer shot towards the center of the fairway. It was not like he could have covered the 10-stroke lead off the top of the table just by scoring an eagle or better on the 16th.
