For years, the sport of golf has seen many trespassers. Whether it’s in the form of human beings or meddlesome animals, there have been uninvited guests at the courses frequently. However, a country club in Florida is tired of the invasion of squirrels on their course, and is even considering relocating the club.

Designed by legendary golf architect, Arthur Hills, the Wyndemere Golf course was opened in 1981. It comprises of 27 holes and is situated in the city of Naples, Florida. However, the members of the 43-year-old country club have been frequently bothered by ‘aggressive’ squirrels. Seeking a solution, the management announced its plans to relocate its 4-decade-old course.

The club members of the Naples-based country club have mentioned the invasion of squirrels during a round of golf. However, along with its deep-rooted admiration for the 18-hole sport, the Country Club is also part of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program, which protects the environment including wildlife.

The Wyndemere Golf club also considered the idea of relocating the squirrels from their habitat. But the proposal was immediately rejected by nature lovers and locals, who believe the relocation of the ‘native grey squirrels is absolutely absurd’. Following the rejection of their initial plan, Wyndemere CEO Ryan Cozzetto talked about maintaining the security of its members.

We are looking into the issue to determine the best outcome for both the squirrels and our members’ safety after receiving numerous reports of aggressive behavior by the animals around several golf tee boxes,” said Cozzetto. “At this point, there are no traps on our property, and we are in the process of determining next steps of which we will update you on soon.”

Another proposal was to relocate the country club as well, but that would result in heavy expenditure for them. Golf courses across the United States have a pinch of wildlife in them. In simpler words, nature and golf courses coexist with each other.

However, when the disruption goes beyond the limits, one has to compromise and make a big decision. As the Wyndemere Country club has yet to announce its plan, it must make a decision that is welfare for all the entities involved.
