Undoubtedly, the Friday at the Presidents Cup was historic. The Internationals notched their biggest victory in a session. Never before in history – not even in the Ryder Cup and the Solheim Cup – has two back-to-back sessions been a clean sweep. While that was a history for the larger team, Adam Scott and Taylor Pendrith were scripting their own history.
That duo was a study in contrast. Scott was the most experienced player in the field. This was his 11th appearance for the International Team. For Pendrith, that was his only second Presidents Cup match in his debut campaign.
That 5 & 6 triumph against Collin Morikawa and Sahith Theeagala was Pendrith’s first point, Scott’s 22nd, the highest for anyone on the International side. It rarely gets any better than this for a rookie.

Pendrith recalled the moment in a candid chat with Smylie Kaufman on his show. “The guy is an absolute legend. The Presidents Cup means so much to him. He has played in some may. I thought we were gonna be a really good pair. And, you know I think he was pumped up to play with me.” Although Scott had to endure another defeat, the rookie teammate’s words will assuage him.

Taylor Pendrith also revealed they were ‘vibing’. It didn’t elude Mike Weir’s eyes. He paired the 44-year-old Scott with the 33-year-old rookie again the next morning. They lost to Scottie Scheffler and Collin Morikawa on the 17th. Regardless, both were sent to the greens again in the afternoon. They went two-up against Brian Harman and Max Homa. Pendrith, however, was more in awe of Scott’s longevity. Something the Canadian finds hard to replicate.

Let’s first look at these numbers from Adam Scott’s career. Barring 2022, the former world no. 1 had a top-three in each of his past ten seasons on the PGA Tour. In 2022, his best result was a T4 at the Genesis Invitational, one of his five top-tens that season. Scott has managed four top-fives this season, marked by a heartbreaking runner-up finish at the Genesis Scottish Open.
Adam Scott is 44 and still crushes 307.1-yard drives on average. The staggering consistency baffles even Taylor Pendrith. Kaufman asked if the 33-year-old Canadian hoped to smash like Scott eleven years from now. “If I am golfing when I am 44, I’ll be happy.” Pendrith was pithy in his response. In the clip now shared on Instagram, Adam Scott replied with a fist bump emoji. These two are definitely vibing.
