The Grant Thornton Invitational is an event of its kind. It is the only event that allows the PGA Tour and LPGA professionals to compete on the same course at the same time. This tournament has allowed the players to make a strong bond and play as a team. And one such bond is between Lexi Thompson and Rickie Fowler. The two have been learning from each other from the beginning, and as Lexi Thompson says, “We bring our strength to the game in general.” Rickie believes that Thompson, by his side, who was 26th for average driving distance on the LPGA in 2024, boosts their chances of winning.
Last season, the team scored a total of 22 under par, matching up their pace and even golf attires. This season, as Lexi Thompson plays her last tournament, fans are wondering if the duo will be able to be on top in the sense of their sports as well as their golf attire. But we sure know that something’s cooking up in Thompson’s head.
On December 12, Jessica Korda, who was supposed to be Fowler’s teammate for the 2023 edition but had to skip as she announced her pregnancy, asked the 29-year-old, “Lexi, are you wearing orange with Rickie on Sunday?” Responding to the question, the LPGA pro teased, “I don’t know!” She then continued, giving her 9-word response, “People will have to just tune in and see.” This Sunday will be Thompson’s last appearance on the greens for a while.

She has said good bye to full-time professional golf but has promised to return for a few events in the coming seasons. The golfer has not yet revealed which events she will play, but majors as per qualification except Amundi Evian Championship could be those events.
Just like Woods’s final round color red, Rickie Fowler too likes to wear orange on Sundays. Talking about the reason, Fowler said, “I started doing that while I was in school. Obviously, not many guys wear orange, so it was a way to be my own man out there… A few of my Oklahoma State teammates wore the same colors, so at the time it was a bit of a bonding thing.”

Fowler’s choss to wear orange on Sundays appears to honor his alma mater while also making a statement on the course. But the question remains: Will the 11-time champion coordinate her outfit with her partner on Sunday as she plays her last professional round? It remains to be seen, but meanwhile, how will Thompson be spending her time?
What are Lexi Thompson’s plans after retirement?
And now, as she plays her last tournament in Naples, Florida, fans can’t help but wonder what’s next for the 29-year-old pro. When asked about her post-retirement plans, Thompson replied, “I am going to Canada for New Year.” She continued, “I’m not sure if I’ll ski, but I will dog sled.” Perhaps a “helicopter flight.” Interestingly, the golfer is also planning to grow her own family. In an interview, Thompson said, “I’ll be 30 next year, so settle down, get married, and have a family. That’s my No. 1 priority.”

While discussing her future, the golfer also mentioned her plans to travel and indulge in some tourist activities, saying, “Next year I want to travel. I want to be able to travel and not play golf, so I can sightsee and do all the touristy things. Definitely looking forward to that.” With all of this, she would be working on her new venture, Lexi Fitness too!
As Thompson prepares to play with Rickie Fowler at the 2024 Grant Thornton Invitational, we can’t help but admire all her appearances on the course! Let us wait to see if matches and wears orange this Sunday!
