The excitement around the last men’s golf major of the year in the United Kingdom continues. The Open Championship’s return to Royal Liverpool has lit up the golf world. However, not everything about the British Open has sat well with the fans as well as last year’s winner Cameron Smith.
Defending champion, Smith, earlier this July, won the LIV Golf London tournament, cementing his second win. The victory was a significant push for the Australian after his outing in April at the Masters. And his return to the British Open has garnered tremendous attention, given his last year’s victory over Rory McIlroy and Cameron Young. But the news of R&A dropping his feature status has given rise to a lot of tension. Let’s find out more about that and the improvements in the situation.

In the golf world, a feature group refers to a group of players paired together for their presence on TV Broadcast. The featured players are those who are at the top of their game. That is why it was shocking for the fans and Cameron Smith to see his absence in the groups for Round 1.
They did not feature the golfer on the Open Championship website before the tournament’s commencement either. However, in a recent development, the latest tweet from an official source might make the fans and Cameron Smith happy and relieved. NUCLR GOLF on Saturday, tweeted, “R&A will feature a LIV golfer on Saturday for the first time this week, with defending champ Cam Smith getting featured group coverage @CamSmithLegion. ”

Due to his not being part of a feature group, fans could not witness the shot-by-shot action by Smith. Irrespective of that, he commenced his game on Thursday. Golf enthusiasts quickly responded to the tweet as they saw the defending champion’s mention.
Looking forward to watching all his 80 shots!
The community is very active in conveying its opinions, distress, and happiness over any developments in the sport. While it was quick to express disappointment regarding Smith’s feature drop, the fans also promptly responded to the latest tweet. One of them said, “Bout [sic] damn time.”

Some fans were sarcastic with their remarks, because of the time it took R&A to rectify its mistake.
How nice of them.

Praise God

One fellow Australian also responded to the tweet.
Watching from Australia we have seen as much of Cam as you would expect and as much as any other player.

And many others were still angry about why the mistake happened in the first place.
Only because they received a ton of crap for treating him so badly!! Not because they wanted to, I'm sure…

The R&A’s latest decision to feature the world number 7 will allow fans to see more of him and his game. And it would be interesting to see how Cameron Smith defends his title. One fan had a totally different point of view altogether.
Why? They all have zero chance of winning. No one playing well. They should focus on the best golfers in the field like McElroy, Day, Fleetwood, Speith, young.
