While golf is a game of ups and downs, some shots make it to the history. Shots that have no sequel. One such swing was made at the Augusta National. In 2005, during the final round of the Masters Tournament, Tiger Woods made a memorable chip shot on the 16th hole from the rough. The ball hovered on the edge of the cup for a few tense seconds before dropping in, sparking excitement among spectators. That iconic moment helped Woods secure his fourth Green Jacket. But someone attempted to mimic it and failed miserably.
In August 2023, DJ Khaled wanted to commemorate the shot and also posted a video where he took the same chip-in shot. The attempt was not taken well by the golf community, and he was bashed heavily for it. But skip to a little over a year later, the hip-hop artist from Beverly Hills might have finally won the hearts of the same community. DJ Khaled was there at the SoFi Center to promote TGL, and Matt Barrie was the host.
He posted the video on his official Instagram account. “We’ve seen Tiger Woods play TGL. We’ve seen Rory McIlroy play in TGL, but not until today have we seen a performance like this at the Sofi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. with that, welcoming DJ. Khaled,” said Matt Barrie. When asked how his round went, Khaled said, “As soon as I got done with my round, I needed a towel. I was drenched with sweat because, yeah, it felt like I just played 18 holes. Um, when I saw Tiger hit that drive shot, it inspired me. So, when I walked into this building, yep, mentally. I was ready. I felt like I played great today”. The video showed some of the highlights from his round. First, there was a moment of him practicing for his tee shot, trying to ‘read the vibe.’

And well, his game was top-tier. Take one of his shots, for example. He had to go over the water. For that, he pulled out his 9-wood. “And I knew my nine would be like 150. And then I knew I was set up for the putt, and I’m a good putter. So, um, Never in doubt”, he added. The entire shot was taken from the overhead view, and well, he shot it, and the ball went directly into the hole. “It’s called confidence. Once you have confidence, you can accomplish anything,” he said.

It is needless to say how much DJ Khaled enjoyed playing at the league’s venue. And to top that, he finally managed to earn the respect of the golf community too.

Fans are excited to see DJ Khaled golf
In the first highlight of the video, it was his practice shot. As he hit the ball from the tee, it landed smoothly on the fairway. And the best part was, when he came close to putt the ball for the second shot, he putted and walked away without turning back, and the ball landed smoothly into the hole. “But as soon as I hit the drive, I wanted to play it safe but not too safe. So I knew I had to get it over to get on the fairway, but it got beautifully in the right position on the fairway”, he added. It seems he has gotten better. Taking to this, one of them commented, “Let’s go golfing… Something I know, my brother @djkhaled KNOWS HOW TO DUNK A GOLF BALL IN THE HOLE…” While Tiger Woods’s team’s golf page, the Jupiter Links Golf Club, simply commented, “Let’s GO GOLFING ‼️” Well, this is also his tagline!

Have an interesting take?
DJ Khaled came back to the center after trying the rather unique digital format of the newly launched league by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, and the experience was breathtaking. And that was what made him believe that this surely was the future of golf. He even said, “The fans are not here yet. Yeah, but I felt them. I felt the energy on the screens; I saw the hands in the sky. I saw, uh, people, you know, having families together and having a good time. Enjoying a match. Yeah, I’m excited about this man, and I can’t wait to see it on ESPN, but I can’t wait to be here on January 7″. Watching him so happy after the game, even his wife, Hally Leadbetter, commented, “LOVE TO SEE IT.”

Khaled has time and again mentioned how deeply he is in love with golf. Even when he tried to attempt the Tiger Woods shot, it was purely out of his love for the game, and he had no intentions of disrespecting the legend. He was just misunderstood. It is his love and passion for golf that makes his game so strong. And well, it was not even clear if his attempt last year was successful or not. It could have been. Taking to this, one of them commented, “We the best 👏.”. Another simply wrote, “Beautiful 👏👏.”
