Halloween is just around the corner and the environment of spooky festivities is in the air. However, for Seoul, this Halloween is rather a sad one instead of a happy occasion as the festival marks the first anniversary of the Itaewon tragedy.

Many people lost their lives in this tragic episode last year and Jenny Shin appears affected to date. It should not come as a surprise though since the tragedy happened in the country she was born.

LPGA pro Jenny Shin might be playing on the American women’s tour but she was born in South Korea and later moved to the US at the age of nine. Like any immigrant, her attachment to her homeland is infinite. And last year when the tragedy happened Shin too was much saddened by it.

Taking to Instagram stories, she shared a post which said “Pray for Itaewon” remembering all those people who lost their lives in the unforeseen tragic chaos last year. On Halloween eve of 2022, a huge crowd of young people gathered in the Itaewon area which is known for its nightlife, bars, and restaurants. The main road is not made smooth, is full of twists and turns and the ground is much sloppy.

Since this was the first Halloween since the pandemic without any restrictions, the crowds number crossed more than one lakh. It was around 10 PM that panic started when people started running in opposite directions haphazardly but there was no place to go. The immense pressure that the weight of so many people put on the steep road started a domino effect. While firefighters and ambulances were called, they couldn’t reach on time due to the dense crown on the location.
