Padraig Harrington can take some rest now as the season on PHA Tour Champions ended with the Charles Schwab Cup Championship. Though he did not win the finale, he did enjoy winning one of the playoffs, the TimberTech Championship earlier in November.

However, Harrington is not the one to settle down, and his love for golf inspires him to seek more. This week he is participating in the RSM Classic. But before that, he made an appearance on a podcast where he talked about the devil of playing golf while drinking by other players.

Padraig Harrington has been in the golf business for a long time. A good proof of being a long-seasoned player is that one earns tons of experience during this duration and gets a hold of what to do on the course and what not. Harrington recently appeared on ‘The Golfer’s Journal’ show and podcast and spoke about playing while drunk.

He says that when he was growing up; he noticed a different culture in his country than the US. Kids and young adults might practice all winter and get to big championships, but then they go out and party and drink. However, in the US it is the opposite.

He continues, “And of course, the worst thing that can happen if you’ve had a drink if you’ve grabbed a good score the next day, because, for the rest of your life, you’ll think you know what, I could get away with this whereas if you came out and shot at the next day after having a drink, you go well.”

He says that the next time a player wants to drink, they should know that there’s a penalty for drinking. So don’t just get drunk, go out, and party without thinking of the consequences. “I’m not telling somebody not to go party I’m just saying that if there’s a penalty you’ll choose wisely”. This is sane advice from a wise professional. Last year John Daly also confessed to drinking during one game.

When Jon Daly played a tournament being drunk

Though Daly loves to have a drink, he never touches one before a game except for one time at L.A. Open. In the documentary ‘Hit It Hard’ Daly said, “It was so slow and I played the back nine first. I think I’m two or three over. I went into the locker room and downed five beers, and I think I shot four under on the front nine. That is the only time I know that I ever drank during a round, and I played great. I played great that week. I finished strong.”

But that was it for the bad boy of golf who followed this rule of golf strictly. On the game front, Harrington is playing in the RSM classic. After the second round, he is tied on 121 rank.
