The golf community is on its toes as the Omega European Masters takes place at the Crans-sur-Sierre in Switzerland. The hype is slowly reaching its zenith as golfers in the field hope to take home a cut from the $2 million prize purse. Among the talented players on the field, leading the scoreboard is none other than Matt Fitzpatrick, who is closely followed by his brother Alex.
The duo has made the Fitzpatrick name echo in the golf world as they aim to take home the trophy. Meanwhile, even the older sibling was surprised by the on-course rivalry that he was experiencing with his brother as he took to an interview ahead of the weekend.

The siblings put their names on the scoreboard as they took two of the top three positions by the end of Friday. The second day of the tournament saw Matt taking the lead with a score of 12-under after round two. His brother, Alex Fitzpatrick, is tied for third place with Romain Langasque with a score of 10-under. When asked about the same, the older brother shared his view on the bizarre situation post the second round.
The elder brother mentioned how weird it was for the siblings to lead the scoreboard while competing in the same event. Matt pointed out the fact that they never did so in junior years and it was a first for them as well.
The Fitzpatrick brothers leading the scoreboard in the same tournament is a first for them as they are four years apart. The elder of the two even went ahead to say, “It’s going to be a nightmare for my parents,” as he hilariously pointed out the effect the weekend rounds might have on their family.

Although the duo had played in the same event earlier at the 2023 Open Championship, they weren’t able to bag top spots. While Matt has made heads turn over the last couple of years, his younger brother Alex is quickly making a reputation out of his own career.

The brothers have an extremely special bond, which has helped the junior golfer follow in his brother’s footsteps. Alex was able to make an impressive debut at the majors as he finished at T17 in the 2023 Open Championship.
The younger Fitzpatrick had a commendable amateur career with wins coming off from the 2017 Yorkshire Amateur Matchplay Championship, the 2020 Golf Club of Georgia Amateur Championship, and the 2021 Old Town Club Collegiate.
The duo will be looking to take home a big cut from the prize pool in the Omega European Masters as they hope to cement their position at the top. Alex was able to register a score of 65 (-5) in both rounds, while Matt finished with 63 (-7) and 65 (-5) respectively. Moreover, a finish at seventh or above will see the older sibling qualify for the Ryder Cup team through the OWGR.
