The FedEx St. Jude Championship is well underway and tensions are at their peak as the tournament is entering its climax on the fourth and final day on Sunday. Every player on the field is experiencing some form of pressure as they hope to snatch a place in the top 50 to be able to advance to the second event next week. Same is the case with Rory McIlroy as he looks to finish the event grandly.

Despite being a fan favorite to win the event, he was seen putting up a not-so-exceptional performance on the course the past three days. And adding to his worries, he encountered a last-minute difficulty that could have cost him the title if not for his knight in shining armor. The reveal by the professional golfer has left the golf community much surprised.

The Irish golfer appeared to be affected by the pressure of playing well as he was seen turning in a run-of-the-mill performance by his standards. Moreover, during the tournament, McIlroy felt like something was off and realized that there was a problem with his golf club.

Opening up about the incident in a presser, the Irishman mentioned how he didn’t actually notice anything wrong during practice but felt it during competitive play. The golfer said, ” I always put my right hand on my putter first to go in and out. I just felt like where my right hand was at the top, it just felt a little too up.”

McIlroy compared the club to his Spider and realized that there was a half an inch difference between the two. Nevertheless, everything turned out fine because of the local Edwin Watts golf shop, which turned out to be a savior for the golfer and helped him cut down the club by half the fingerbreadth.

Meanwhile, the professional was not completely satisfied with the performance that he had put up in the event so far. He was seen having an up-and-down day even during the third round, affecting his rhythm on the course.
