Lee Trevino is anti slow play
Trevino has one of the most elegant swings in the sport of golf. He is presumably the king of fast play and has been very vocal in raising his concerns over making the sport quicker. Surprisingly his words that he spoke back in 1973 make more sense in the current scenario not only with respect to professional golfers but also to the young amateurs. Many people perceive the sport of golf as a slow game and thus think it may be boring. Well, that’s what Trevino wanted to change.

Back in 1973, Lee Trevino voiced his concerns over slow play. Trevino mentioned how practice swings are “unnecessary and exhausting.” He also said, “They not only waste a lot of time but they also have to kill you off eventually,”. “You hit the ball 85 times and you swing 400 times, all you’ve done is knock yourself out.”

He added, “You’ll see these guys all over the place.” “They’ll waggle three, four, or five times, but never the same number. You begin to wonder: ‘God, isn’t he ever gonna hit it?”. Lee’s words are apt with the current situation, we see professionals, as well as the amateurs, take 3-4 practice swings before they finally hit the shots.

It’s more of a routine, to spend time on the ball. But probably it makes the golfer stiffer and also sometimes kind of breaks the momentum of the game. It may also make the game slow thus causing delays.
