The 15-time major championship winner has various stories associated with the events he has played. However, the lesser-known anecdote of when the five-time Masters winner played with, probably the greatest of all time, Snead, arguably stands out.

Moreover, Bob Harig wrote about the same incident when the six-year-old Tiger competed against the 82-time PGA Tour winner Sam Snead. He talked about it in his new book on Tiger and Phil Mickelson.

Harig wrote about when in 1982, Snead was invited to play an exhibition match. It is where Tiger got the opportunity to play against the legend in a two-hole game. The brief round took place at the Soboba Springs Country Club, a Southern California desert course where the young prodigy took on probably the most outstanding professionals of all time. The two played the tournament on the 17th and the 18th holes.

The first hole of the match was the 17th hole, a par 3, surrounded by water on the right side. Tiger’s tee shot faded slightly towards the water. Then Snead said to Woods, Take it out and hit it again.” However, instead of doing that, Woods went towards the golf ball that was sitting barely into the water, knocked his shot onto the green, and made a two-putt for a 4.

In the end, Tiger lost the tournament to Sam with one shot. However, the seven-time major championship winner offered his autograph to the young Woods.

The twist is when Tiger reciprocated his gesture by giving the 70-year-old legend his autograph. Woods’ gesture proves the confidence he had in himself even at that tender age and how he did not feel nervous while playing with Sam Snead. It is truly incredible to hear a fantastic story.
