Does it make a sound when dreams get shattered? Maybe not, but it sure hurts. Eugenio Chacarra is feeling the same. He joined LIV because his hero, his inspiration called him, and he did not want to miss the chance. But now, all of that seems to have been forgotten.
“So that was the plan but then obviously I get the call from LIV and I get the call from Sergio, one of my heroes since I was little. And it just made sense I mean having to play with the best players in the world I thought. And I think LIV is the future and I obviously give all my trust to LIV Golf,” said Chacarra revealing why he joined LIV. But just a few months ago, rumors swirled that Chacarra was ready to part ways with LIV Golf.
He shot those down in an interview with Bunkered, saying, “That’s not true at all [that I want to leave].” Still, he wasn’t blind to the uncertainty surrounding his spot on the Fireballs team. “I don’t know what’s going to happen next year,” he admitted. “I wasn’t relegated, so I’m still available for any team, and maybe Fireballs; we’ll see what Sergio decides. I would love to stay; my goal is to stay, and even if they don’t pick me, I can still go to LIV Promotions and play my way in, so we’ll see what happens. Good golf will take care of itself, but I’m excited for these upcoming opportunities.”

Back then, his optimism was undeniable. Things changed in October when Sergio Garcia confirmed that Chaccara is not part of Fireballs anymore. He very formally said, “There is going to be one new player. Unfortunately, Eugenio Chacarra finished outside the top 24 and his contract is up. We are very thankful for everything he’s done this last two and half, three years.” But fast forward to now, he stands without any franchise.
After this, he was to play in LIV Golf Promotions but has now withdrawn from the event. The Promotion event is to take place at Riyadh GC from December 12-14. As a result of this, he will not be a part of the 2025 season. This is shocking as Lopez-Chacarra leaped from college golf to the pros by joining LIV Golf in 2022. He won the 2022 LIV Golf Invitational Bangkok.
Unfortunately, that’s how LIV Golf works. Teams have tough calls to make, and player contracts, roster spots, and a million other details come into play. As RangeGoats GM Randall Wells put it in an interview with Sports Illustrated, “We have to take into account a host of factors, including player contracts and the fact we have a limited number of roster spots.”
So, what’s next for Chacarra? That’s the big question. As per the reports, the young Spanish golfer might try for the PGA Tour but any official confirmation regarding this is awaited. However, Chacarra himself has addressed his PGA Tour ambitions in the past, saying, “It’s just another path, so once my contract is done, if I want to try Q School, I can get into those tours, but right now I have a lot of time on LIV, I’m happy here, and I think it’s the best path for me.”
But the journey to the PGA Tour will also not be easy. The golfer will likely have to serve a one-year suspension from his last LIV event, as that is the current rule for nonmembers playing unauthorized events.
24 year old Spaniard, Eugenio Chacarra, is a late withdrawal from the LIV Golf Promotion’s Event next week. He has not signed for another franchise after being released by the Fireballs, so he will not be on the LIV Golf League in 2025, despite winning in the opening season.

While his future in golf feels a little up in the air right now, fans definitely have their ideas about where he should go next. But at the same time, they feel sorry for him too.
Fans express their sorrow with some suggestions for ex-LIV Golf star
Of course, not everyone was thrilled with the outcome. One fan voiced their frustration with LIV’s approach, commenting, “This is a crying shame as a decent talent, but this amplifies the cutthroat nature of LIV.” Another fan also noted the same and commented, “The LIV exhibition league is slowing dying a painful death.”
Since his win in Bangkok, the Spanish golfer become a key part of Sergio Garcia’s Fireballs team, even helping secure a team title at LIV Andalucia this summer. With such an impressive start to his career, it’s no wonder Chacarra has built a loyal fan base. “Wow, surprised he didn’t get signed by another team. Wishing him the best, though. Is he not able to play in Asian Tour events?” one fan asked. It’s a valid question.

Chacarra hasn’t ruled out that possibility. If he’s not playing in the LIV Golf League next year, the Asian Tour and The International Series could still be on the table. In HongKong, he talked about it and said, “I’m happy with the way my game is trending, I’m still only 24 and I know I’ll get up there again, whether here (on The International Series and Asian Tour) or LIV Golf or the PGA Tour. It has been a struggle for two years but now I can play again I can compete as much as possible.”
Notably, in August 2023 he claimed his first 72-hole pro title at the St Andrews Bay Championship, an International Series event, defeating veteran Matt Jones from Australia on the 10th extra hole, which was the longest play-off in the history of the Asian Tour.
Given recent events, he may reconsider those plans. Another fan offered a different suggestion, writing, “Maybe he goes the DPWT route.” But for that, he will need to go to the Q-School, which he has not. So that would be the first step.

Others chimed in with the hard truth about the PGA Tour’s strict policy. “Eugenio will have to serve a 1-year suspension from his final LIV event to be able to play in any PGA Tour event. I wish him all the best.” And they’re right. The PGA Tour mandates a one-year suspension for non-member players who participate in LIV events, starting from their last appearance. And the same rule would be applied to Chacarra if he makes a move toward PGA reinstatement.
Whether he finds a way back into LIV, explores new tours, or takes on the traditional circuit, one thing is clear: wherever Chacarra goes, his fans will cheer him on. Where would you like to see Chacarra take his next swing? Let us know in the comments!
