John Daly is among the group of professionals who are famous both on as well as off-the-course. The two-time major championship winner is well known for his lavish lifestyle. Moreover, the 55-year-old professional once lost millions due to gambling.

An incredible incident when John Daly lost millions

Daly who is famous for his long backswing and even at the age of 55, drives the golf ball miles off the tee. Daly is also a five-time winner on the PGA Tour including two major wins. However, the professional was also famous for his love for gambling.

In his book, John Daly: My Life In and Out of the Rough, mentioned how he lost $50-$60 million through gambling. He mentions his gambling problem in the last chapter of the book. He said, “If I don’t get control of my gambling, it’s going to flat-out ruin me.”

Daly lost to Tiger Woods in an epic two-man play-off back in 2005. As a result, finished as the runner-up. Daly won $750,000 from the prize money share. Guess what he did next? Daly went straight to Las Vegas, he sat down on a $5,000 slot machine. And, lost $600,000 in the first thirty minutes.

But Long John did not back away. He took out another $600,000 from the line of credit from the casino and lost the whole sum in two hours.  Daly lost $1.65 million in five hours. Well, this proves Daly’s love for gambling.

Daly is the 2017 Insperity Invitational winner

Long John won on the PGA Tour Champions at the 2017 Insperity Invitational. He ended the event with an overall score of 14-under-par. As a result, won with a one-shot lead. Daly carded a final round of 69, three-under-par on his route to victory at the event.
