Despite the tag of a LIV defector, there is no denying the fact that Bryson DeChambeau is currently one of the best golfers in the world. His last few tournaments may not be the best reflection of that. However, his previous records and the latest LIV event all vouch for his caliber. The mad scientist, as he is famously known by many, proved to everyone that he still has what it takes to compete in professional golf.

Even though the 29-year-old was not able to convert a brilliant lead into a win at Valderrama, DeChambeau’s confidence in his game was quite visible. Despite losing that hefty $4 million cash prize, the 2020 US Open winner will have a lot of positives to take from his game last week.

The eighth event on the LIV Golf schedule concluded with a bang. While Talor Gooch clinched a smooth victory, the California-born DeChambeau was not any less competitive on the field. In fact, his second round was quite impressive, which allowed the golfer to lead the scoreboard.

Many had anticipated that DeChambeau would register the victory in his name. However, nonetheless, the professional showed that despite the competitiveness added by “the tough golf course”, he was able to tame it well. The same attitude was reflected in his post-tournament press conference. He took the mic and brewed optimistic responses, showcasing that he is ready for any competition.

The 29-year-old golfer, when asked about the positives from LIV Golf Andalucía, he said, “Yeah, it shows I can compete with the best of them“.

Acknowledging the ferocity of the playing field, DeChambeau sounded confident in his form. This could be because the ‘mad scientist’ has not been able to consecutively play great. On the one hand, he performed exceptionally at the PGA Championship with a T4 finish. On the other hand, he was not able to continue the same momentum at the 2023 US Open and took the T20 berth.

Last week was sure to add that much-needed reinforcement to the golfer’s performance. He has been able to execute his plan well, and he will hope to continue the same in the upcoming games. After all, the LIV golfer himself claimed, “My game is back“. That is definitely a positive sign, especially with the majors coming up.

The clear purpose of ‘Mad Scientist’ following the second-place finish at LIV Golf Andalucía

After his confident statement about his performance in Southern Spain, Bryson DeChambeau got candid about his goal. He expressed his wish to “tighten things up for the next week“. It implied that the golfer aimed to continue his form as LIV Golf moves to its next European destination—London.

The venue is the same as where LIV Golf stepped professionally into the world of golf, and naturally, the American golfer will look to outperform some of the best golfers in the world there. This will enable him to not only gain a victory in a LIV event but also accumulate confidence for the last major of the tournament.

As indicated by the golfer, he will aim to bring the Open Championship 2023 home. “I want to win a major”, DeChambeau concluded in the press conference, thus clearing his stance on his current purpose in the game. It is not unlikely for DeChambeau to inscribe his name as the 2023 Open Championship victor. However, to do so, he will have to face a field perhaps far more competitive than that of LIV events.

But then again, the ‘mad scientist’ is known for formulating new methods for adding excitement to golf. Perhaps next week  fans will witness one of these experiments turn into a victory for the golfer.
