Fans had their take on this news, as they were upset to not see their favorite player participate.
Golf fans react to the shocking news
Fans are not happy about Reed’s news. The comment section was full of criticism with a little splash of sympathy. In the golf world, being compared to Tiger Woods is an honor, but it is the opposite when one is compared with Woods for all the wrong reasons. Fans called Reed’s statement ‘a classic Tiger Woods excuse’.
Soft mattress! A classic Tiger Woods excuse
— Golf Wars (@golf_wars) September 26, 2022
They questioned his earnings and wondered why, even though he is a LIV golf member now, he doesn’t have enough money or enough liberty to choose the right mattress for himself. Because of this sudden news, fans were sarcastic and angry. Some fans liked his decision not to play since he wanted to play less golf; hence, his wish was granted.
That pain in your back(side) has a name Patrick. Put some respect on Justine Reed!
— Chief Knockahoma (@GolfGrindBlog) September 26, 2022
The comments were not all negative, though. Fans also sympathized with his back injury and said they understand the pain.
Sounds like satire. All of that LIV money and he can't stay at a place with a mattress that he likes?
Maybe he should've been spending more time with his family.
— Matt Smith (@SamENole) September 26, 2022
He was embarrassed to learn there was a cut at the DP world French tournament this past weekend. So he’s claiming “my back hurts” when really his ego is hurting
— Joe Smith (@bewarebefore) September 26, 2022
Can't believe it ! Patrick Reed travels without a custom mattress for his back ? With LIV's dollars he could charge a jet. DPTour makes you travel all over the world (except America) at least, Justine and the kids will be happy to see him earlier
— Annick Rousset-Rouard (@annick_1230) September 26, 2022
Overall, the comments section had more criticism than support. According to fans, his statement was a satire, and the idea of not playing was an excuse not accepted as a valid reason.
I don't like Reed, but as a guy with a bad L5, I sympathize. I've slept on more tan one hotel floor because the bed wasn't giving me enough support
— Chuck Daddy (@Avoid_TheClap) September 26, 2022
Good no one wants him to play anyways. He’s supposed to play less golf anyways
— Landon (@pandonlackard) September 27, 2022
Probably injured his back with all those flights he's been on lately. Poor guy

His “statements” are really turning into a dumpster fire.

Reed has earned around $6 million by playing five LIV Golf tournaments. Even though he won and achieved a lot, he still couldn’t make it to the world’s top 50 golfers. This was the first time since 2014 that he couldn’t grab a place in the world ranking.
