Lexi Thompson showed an impressive performance at the Shriners Children’s Open in Las Vegas and almost made history as she aimed to become the first woman in 78 years to make the 36-hole cut on the PGA Tour. Thompson showcased her skills, making five birdies in a 10-hole stretch but narrowly missing the cut due to a few late bogeys.
Her highlight round, a 2-under 69, tied Michelle Wie West’s record for the lowest score by a woman in a PGA Tour round. The latter had shot 68 twice in the Sony Open, once as a 14-year-old prodigy.
Following her second day on the PGA Tour, Thompson’s season came to a close. However, this didn’t dampen the spirits of her young fans. They eagerly awaited the end of Thompson’s game to celebrate her incredible achievement of gracing the PGA greens.
LPGA’s official Instagram handle, as well as Thompson herself, posted a snippet from the Vegas greens of the golfer interacting with her young fans. The caption under a video posted by LPGA read: “@lexi always has time for the young fans.”
