Phil Mickelson has been under public scrutiny ever since he joined LIV Golf. The left-handed golfer has also been criticized several times in the past for his gambling addiction. However, Lefty has always been a philanthropist and helps people in need. Today we look back on when Mickelson donated a six-figure amount to struggling Gold star families.
Mickelson has always been a donor. From his charity match against Tiger Woods in 2019 to the donations to Operations Warriors Foundation, Lefty has always been there for the people.

Gold Star families refer to the spouses, children, parents, siblings, or others whose loved ones died while serving the nation. Mickelson and his wife Amy decided to help such families by pledging to donate $200k.
Phil Mickelson gifts $200,000 to Special Operations Warrior Foundation
The Birdies for the Brave is an initiative founded by Mickelson and Amy in 2004. It marked the beginning of the Mickelson’s partnership with the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. They decided to make the Special Operations Warrior Foundation the recipient of their new project back in 2018.

Since then, the Birdies for the Brave program has rapidly expanded and has offered initiatives that have changed the lives of countless military families who needed assistance. Hundreds of kids assisted by the Special Operations Warrior Foundation have received college educations thanks to Mickelson and Amy’s warmhearted commitment over the past 15 years.

Steve McLeary, who is the Executive Director of Special Operations Warrior Foundation thanked the couple. He said, “We simply cannot thank Phil and Amy enough for the blessings they bring to the children and families we support.” Over 100 kids’ college educations have been funded by their couple, which totaled $950,000. For the education of the kids of the fallen special operators, an additional $2.4 million has been raised thanks to the Birdies for the Brave program.
Two years later, the LIV Golf player donated another $500k to HBCU ahead of “The Match”. With the 52-year-old now signed with LIV Golf, we can expect a lot more donations from Phil Mickelson.
