Throughout his PGA Tour career, Mickelson has always given back to the people. It was because of these good deeds that people still respect Lefty, despite being a defector of the 92-year-old Tour. The golfer founded the Phil and Amy Foundation in 2004. Since then the foundation has contributed and performed several charitable works.
Back in 2020, the foundation hosted a PGA Tour event at PGA West and the La Quinta Country Club. The main objective of the tournament was to raise funds for the people in need in the Coachella Valley. And it’s safe to say, Mickelson succeeded in achieving the intent.

Mickelson’s PGA Tour event helped in raising $1 million in charity. Moreover, the funds were then distributed among 14 charities based in the Coachella Valley. The list of charities included Alzheimer’s Association, Boxing Club, Boys and Girls Club, Pegasus Riding Academy, and many more.
A year later, ahead of the 2021 installment of the event, Mickelson shared his thoughts on the funds raised in the 2020’s event. He said, “We were thrilled to raise one million dollars for charities from last year’s event and provide needed support to worthy Coachella Valley organizations.” The 6-time Major Champion then shared his excitement to be the host of the charity event yet again and bring a positive impact on society.

The 2020 American Express was won by Andrew Landry after defeating the Mexican golfer, Abraham Ancer in the final round. Due to the COVID pandemic, the event was played without any spectators a year later. Kim Si-Woo won that year’s tournament with a final score of -23.
Phil Mickelson along with his wife has raised funds over the years through their foundation. So, it isn’t surprising when the couple raises a 7-figure amount for donation. Because that’s how popular and powerful the personality of the 6 time Major Champion is.
