Tiger Woods withdrawing from the Hero World Challenge, an event he hosts, was not something anyone would have dreamed of. Yet, it happened. His leg injuries from the 2021 car accident still have yet to heal, and since he is reluctant to take a cart on a PGA Tour official event, he can’t walk all 72 holes. Another thing that no one would have ever expected to hear from the 15-time major champion’s mouth was his willingness to play on the Champions Tour. However, it happened as well.

Recently, Woods appeared as a guest on ‘Another Golf Podcast,’ a Bridgestone Golf podcast. And he discussed his relationship with fellow golfer Fred Couples, his life as a father, his plans to play on the Senior Tour, etc., among many other things there.

Tiger Woods looks forward to playing on the Champions Tour

Turning 50 is the main criterion for a PGA Tour player to become a PGA Tour Champions member. And Tiger Woods will only turn 47 by the end of this year. Nonetheless, the Senior Tour will always be an open option for him after he turns 50, and he is already excited about it.

“3 more years,” Woods said in the Bridgestone Golf podcast. “And I get to ride a buggy like those guys out there,” he added, which implies his intention to play on the Tour Champions after turning 50.

The golfer doesn’t like to use a golf cart during an official event. There have been instances where he bluntly criticized other players for using one like his “I walked with a broken leg, so…” comment on John Daly using a cart at the 2019 PGA Championship.

However, his ‘no-cart’ policy applies only to the PGA Tour official events. Woods is not against the players using a cart on Tour Champions or other Tour-sanctioned unofficial events.

In fact, he did use one during the 2021 PNC Championship, the first event he attended after his accident earlier that year. Furthermore, he will use it on Capital One’s The Match this week and the 2022 edition of the father-son event next week.

The golfer’s statement resonates with that of Charles Barkley’s

It hasn’t been long since Charles Barkley said Woods should consider joining the Tour Champions now. According to the former NBA star, his age and his injuries demand him to play against older golfers than the young players on the PGA Tour.
