The wildest party in golf just got a little more tamed… Or did It? Even with the introduction of a “zero tolerance” policy and a mandatory code of conduct acknowledgment, the WM Phoenix Open’s reputation as the most raucous and unpredictable event on the PGA Tour remains intact. Organizers have taken steps to crack down on behavior that crosses the line, but fans of the tournament, affectionately known as “The Greatest Show on Grass,” have consistently proven that they can find ways to push the boundaries and keep the party going, no matter what rules are in place and same is the case with this year’s event as well.
1. The beer snake bust
The WM Phoenix Open is known for its wild and rowdy atmosphere, but it seems like the authorities are trying to keep things under control this year. In a bizarre incident, police stepped in to stop a “beer snake” from forming on the iconic 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale. For the uninitiated, a beer snake is a long, snaking structure made out of stacked beer cups. The crowd was attempting to create one, but a police official intervened, taking the budding beer snake away and earning a chorus of boos from the crowd. The incident was captured on camera and posted by NUCLRGOLF on X, with the caption “#CRACKDOWN — The boo birds were out at TPC Scottsdale after police stopped a beer snake from forming in the stands at the stadium hole.”

2. Min Woo Lee’s famous phrase
You’ve probably heard Min Woo Lee’s catchphrase “Let him cook” by now. But have you ever wondered where it came from? It turns out it’s a gaming term from Call of Duty, and Lee first used it in a social media post last year. Since then, it’s popped up everywhere – on a fan’s t-shirt, in a video announcing his spot in the PGA Tour 2024 season, and even in his celebrations after winning the Australian PGA Championship.

And just to drive the point home, Lee even posted a picture of himself wearing a hat with the phrase emblazoned on it in his Instagram story. It’s just one of the things that makes Lee so lovable – his fun personality and willingness to be himself.
3. Shoey’s never go out of style
Shoeys have been all the rage at the WM Phoenix Open and it seems like everyone’s getting in on the action at the 2025 edition as well. In an electrifying moment, Argentina’s Emiliano Grillo made a stunning ace at TPC Scottsdale’s infamous 16th hole during the WM Phoenix Open. And the celebration didn’t stop there – one enthusiastic fan took it to the next level by doing a shoey to toast Grillo’s incredible shot and drank alcohol out of his shoes. The 155-yard shot landed directly in the cup, sending the crowd into a frenzy and moving Grillo to 3-under overall. The ace was the 12th at the par-3 16th hole in tournament history and marked a turning point for Grillo, who arrived at the stadium just one stroke off the projected cut line.
