The Phoenix Open, also known as the People’s Open, is the most loved event in the PGA Tour. The energy of the fans without restrictions can match any other sports event. However, some new rules introduced after 2024’s misconduct by the fans caused worry. But to compensate for that, the impressive roster of players, including Sepp Straka, who won recently at the American Express and even was leading at the AT&T Pebble Beach.

Along with him, world no. 1, Scottie Scheffler, Hideki Matsuyama (winner of The Sentry 2025), Justin Thomas, and many others were part of it. Now with the competition’s intense roster, out of 132 players featuring, only 65 would qualify for the last two rounds. As we concluded the day 2 result, some top names had to take disappointment and made their way back home. Here are the top 5 who failed to qualify.

Max Homa

The six-time PGA Tour winner has struck a huge setback with his performance after two rounds. Max Homa has been struggling since the beginning of the 2025 schedule, as the best finish he recorded yet is T26 at The Sentry. After that, his performance has seen a dip. Following on, he finished at T53 in Pebble Beach and now at the Phoenix Open, T109, after two rounds.

The 34-year-old recorded over 5 in the first round with 76. However, he showed a strong sign of a comeback with 69, under par 3. However, it wasn’t enough to make the cut. Now, after his disqualification, he will be next featuring in the Genesis Invitational teeing off on February 13 to redeem his tough season start.

Billy Horschel

The next player who faced the harsh reality is the 38-year-old, Billy Horschel. After the average start at the Sentry and the Sony Hawaii Open, where he finished at 51 position and missed the cut, respectively. The golfer has shown his strong comeback with the rest participation. He finished T21 at the American Express, while T9 at the AT&T Pebble Beach.

Following his strong upside, fans were expecting him to get closer to victory. However, par performance with 71 and 72 in two rounds led to his exit. He was placed in the T95 position after the performance.

Lucas Glover

After the T3 finish from the 45-year-old, fans had high hopes for him. However, he did follow a certain pattern in his 2025 schedule. Out of his 4 appearances this year. He missed the cut in 2 events and played great golf in the other two. Before his T3 finish at AT&T Pebble Beach, he also recorded T21 at the Sentry. While at the American Express, he missed the cut, and now, in an alternate event that is the WM Phoenix Open, the same feat is repeated.

The 6-time PGA Tour winner recorded 75 and 67 in two rounds, placing him at T88 position. Now, with the following pattern, is the next event bringing a seventh victory? It will be interesting to find out.

Matt Fitzpatrick

Another disappointing name that failed to make it to the final rounds is Matt Fitzpatrick. The English golfer isn’t having the best of starts after the T24 finish in the first signature event. The graph saw a downtrend as in the next event which was the AT&T Pebble Beach he recorded a T48 finish.

Now at the Phoenix Open, the 30-year-old missed the cut with the T79 position. He recorded rounds of 72 and 69, but still fell short to make the cut.

Chris Kirk

The 2024 Sentry winner had a great start to the season last year. But, in 2025, he has struggled to get the best of the results. He at the first signature, i.e. The Sentry was placed at T44. Even following in the American Express and AT&T Pebble Beach, he recorded T34 and T62 finishes.

While at the Phoenix Open, he failed to qualify with rounds 72 and 74. And was placed at the T115 position.

The tournament has shown a great unexpected feat as after two rounds, Thomas Detry is leading with under par 12. Michael Kim is tied for second place after recording a great second round of 63 and jumping 25 positions as per the leaderboard. Now with the result, many top names who were top hopes of the fans have shocked the golf world missing the cut. However, with the next event coming, can the golfers showcase a feat of comeback?
