Scottie Scheffler‘s chance at a PLAYERS’ hat-trick is well alive. The World No.1 is currently placed T16 with a score of 5 under par, six strokes away from the lead. After two rounds of play, he has to step up his game during the weekend and announce his return to anyone else looking to just him. His biggest challengers, Min Woo Lee and Akshay Bhatia, are both at 11 under par and currently leading the contest.

They are followed right on their heels by JJ Spaun, who is a stroke below, and Rory McIlroy, Alex Smalley, and Collin Morikawa, who are two strokes below. These players headline a group of 72 players who made the cut after scoring a 1 under or better.

Xander Schauffele maintained his streak of making the cut, extending it to 59. He still has a long way to go to reach Tiger Woods’s record of 142, but it is the highest since Woods’s streak ended in 2005. Schauffele will be hoping to have a better day 3 and day 4, especially if he were to challenge for the title.

The field looks loaded, but a host of big names did miss the cut at Ponte Vedra Beach in Florida. Let’s take a look at them.

Big names who missed the cutline at the fifth major worth $25M

The most shocking miss from the final two days at the TPC Sawgrass is Ludvig Aberg. The Swede had a day to forget on Friday, as he recorded three double bogeys to finish 2 over par across two days, 3 strokes above the cutline. The world No.5 will be disappointed, especially considering that he had a 1 under par at the end of Day 1.

Hideki Matsuyama and Justin Rose will feel hard done by as they had missed the cut by just one stroke. While Matsuyama had a horrible first day where he recorded a 2 over par, Rose had a forgettable second day recording a 1 over par as both finished even on par at the end of day 2 proceedings. Max Homa and Viktor Hovland were also not able to recover from horrific first-day showings. The pair registered 7 over par and 8 over par, respectively, after day 1, leaving very little maneuvering room on day 2. Both fell short considerably, Homa by 7 shots and Hovland by 5.
