Can Aldrich Potgieter take it all the way through? The PGA Tour is at the Vidanta Vallarta Course in Mexico. The top stars are battling for the 2025 Mexico Open glory! Many struggled to keep up with the 20-year-old who had secured a 3-stroke lead against the entire field after the second round. Then, there were those who had barely scraped through to make the cut. One of them was the defending champion, Jake Knapp, who hadn’t had the most exciting time on the field this time around.

Knapp and 12 other stars managed to push the planned 65-player cut to 77 after finishing tied at the last position. Nonetheless, everyone is in it for the title and also the financial gains that follow it. But what will everyone on the leaderboard earn? Let’s take a look at the individual payout of the $7 million pot of the 2025 Mexico Open.

2025 Mexico Open prize money breakdown

Yes, the 2025 Mexico Open is being played for $7 million. Anyone who followed the tournament during Jake Knapp’s win would be surprised by this. That’s because the 2024 edition of the event had a purse of $8.1 million. This doesn’t reflect positively on Jay Monahan & Co. who were making the fans believe that the PGA Tour is consistently progressing to compete with their rivals across the oceans.

According to GolfDigest, the winner of the tournament will still get a handsome payout of $1.26 million. That is nearly $200,000 less than Knapp’s $1.46 million. The payout for the players down the list has also reduced with everyone in the top 6 getting more than $250,000. Knapp and Co. at the other end of the cut will share $15,050 if they maintain their place by the end of the fourth round. Here’s the entire list of prize money payouts:

Possible winners, biggest losers, and a whole lot of entertainment

Aldrich Potgieter is on the perfect trajectory to win his first PGA Tour title. The South African is in his rookie season on the Tour and has only made 9 appearances so far. He gave his best performance a few weeks ago at the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open. In the challenging conditions at Torrey Pines, Potgieter managed to finish at T15, only a few strokes behind the eventual winner.

But he is not the sole competitor at the top. The 20-year-old is still being chased down by experienced golfers. Stephan Jaeger has already tasted his first victory at the 2024 Texas Children’s Houston Open. Jaeger has a major advantage over Potgieter as he knows how to win under pressure. So does Aaron Rai, who also managed his first PGA Tour title win in 2024. The Englishman dominated the field in the Wyndham Championship to capture the title in a convincing fashion. Rai also has 5 other international wins to his name.

The only other player at the top of the leaderboard who hasn’t won a title like Aldrich Potgieter is Brian Campbell. He has been on the quest to grab his first PGA Tour win ever since he joined it in 2017. After 8 years of hard work, we can imagine Campbell being more desperate for the win than Potgieter. That makes the Newport Beach local a major threat to anyone on the field.

Whether it’s experience or desperation, Aldrich Potgieter has everyone coming for him and he will have to give a couple more brilliant performances to capture his first PGA Tour win.
