The Asian Tour is making a stop in Macau this week for its second International Series event of the season, and the competition is about to heat up! With a $2 million prize purse and three spots at The Open Championship on the line, some of the biggest names from the LIV Golf League are ready to battle it out at Macau Golf and Country Club—a classic par-70 course.

John Catlin is back to defend his title after his clutch playoff win last year, which kickstarted a strong season for him. But with several LIV stars in the mix, fresh from competing in Hong Kong and Singapore, the field is stacked with potential winners, so the competition is going to be fierce.

With $360,000 waiting for the champion, the big question is—who’s going to step up and take home the trophy this year? Here’s a look at the Top 5 players to watch at this year’s International Series Macau presented by Wynn 🇲🇴.

5. David Puig

David Puig is quickly making a name for himself in the LIV Golf as a key player for Fireballs GC. Last year, he came heartbreakingly close to victory at the International Series Macau, losing in a playoff to John Catlin. But with the way he’s been playing lately, this could be the year he flips the script. Puig has been knocking on the door of victory for a while now. He grabbed 4th place at both LIV Golf Adelaide and LIV Golf Singapore, proving he’s in top form. His T3 finish in Houston remains his best individual result in LIV Golf, showing he’s right there in the mix.

And it’s not like he doesn’t know how to close out a tournament. Back in October 2023, he dominated the International Series Singapore, leading from start to finish and winning by five strokes. His last big win came in February 2024 at the IRS Prima Malaysian Open.

Now, all he needs is that final push to turn his close calls into a trophy. Maybe, just maybe, this might just be his moment.

4. John Catlin

John Catlin isn’t just the defending champion of the International Series Macau—he made history here last year, firing a mind-blowing 59 on his way to victory. That wasn’t just a personal best; it was the first sub-60 round in Asian Tour history. So, if there’s anyone who knows how to go low on this course, it’s him. He’s already bagged back-to-back Asian Tour titles, including the Saudi Open. That said, he’s also been on the wrong side of some close calls, falling short in playoffs against Ben Campbell in Morocco and M.J. Maguire in Thailand—but that just proves how consistently he’s been in contention.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Sergio García's recent form lead him to another victory, or will a new champion emerge?

Have an interesting take?

On the LIV Golf, Catlin’s best finish so far has been a T7, achieved across six starts with three different teams. But if course familiarity really does make a difference, don’t be surprised if he rewrites history and defends his title in Macau.

3. Abraham Ancer

Abraham Ancer is on fire right now, and he’s proving to be a serious contender wherever he plays. He finally got his first LIV Golf win in Hong Kong in 2024, outlasting the competition in a tense three-man playoff. And just weeks later, he played a huge role in Fireballs GC’s dominant six-stroke victory in Adelaide.

His recent finishes—T10 at LIV Golf Singapore and a runner-up finish (T2) in Adelaide tell a positive tale. And if you need any more proof that he can hang with the best, just look back to May 2021, when he went toe-to-toe with Rory McIlroy at the Wells Fargo Championship, finishing just behind him.

With his experience, confidence, and recent success, Ancer could be the guy to beat in Macau. If he keeps this level up, he might just take the trophy home this time.

2. Patrick Reed

If there’s one thing Patrick Reed knows how to do, it’s deliver when it counts. The 2018 Masters champion and 4Aces GC star has had his share of ups and downs lately, but make no mistake—he’s still a serious threat. His dominant win at the Link Hong Kong Open, where he shot an insane 11-under-par 59 in the third round, proved he’s got the firepower to take over a tournament.

His recent finishes—T37 in Adelaide, T25 in Singapore, and T10 in Hong Kong—haven’t been his best, but Reed has a way of showing up when you least expect it. Case in point? His hole-in-one at LIV Golf Adelaide’s ‘Watering Hole,’ was a moment that had the crowd buzzing.

With his big-game experience and ability to go low when it matters, Macau could be the perfect place for Reed to remind everyone why he’s one of the most dangerous players on the field.

1. Sergio García

Sergio García is on fire right now. After clinching the LIV Golf Hong Kong title in March 2025 with a score of -18, he’s proving that age is just a number. His first win came at Valderrama, and now, as the captain of Fireballs GC, he’s been leading from the front, guiding his team to multiple wins—including a big one in Adelaide.

The 2017 Masters champion has been in strong form lately, finishing T32 in Singapore, T18 in Adelaide, and of course, that big win in Hong Kong. Last season, he even finished third in the overall individual standings, showing just how consistent he’s been.

With his confidence sky-high and momentum on his side, Macau could be the next stop for another big win. If he keeps this up, don’t be surprised if he’s the one hoisting the trophy on Sunday!
