The Texas Children’s Houston Open has been quite the rollercoaster this week. Thunderstorms caused a delay on Friday, suspending play at 3:01 p.m. CT. After a two-hour wait, players were finally able to get back on the course at 5:10 p.m., but daylight ran out before they could finish, leading to another suspension at 7:37 p.m. CT. Now, 52 players still have work to do before round two officially wraps up.
Scottie Scheffler put on a show, carding a course-record-tying 62 on Friday, bringing him to 11-under par and securing the lead. Right behind him, Taylor Pendrith posted back-to-back 65s to sit just one stroke back at 10-under. Nico Echavarria is also at 10-under, though he’ll have to start his Saturday with a tricky par putt on the 17th. Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy pulled off a late surge, making three birdies in his last four holes to finish at 4-under with a solid 66. If he hadn’t done that, he would have missed the cut.
Round two picks up again on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. CT, and once that’s wrapped up, round three will begin with threesomes teeing off from split tees between approximately 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. CT.
