After the devastating LA wildfires forced a change of plans, the 2025 Genesis Invitational is now set to tee off at the iconic Torrey Pines South Course from February 13-16. Originally scheduled to take place at the Riviera Country Club, the tournament was relocated due to the wildfires. But don’t worry, the excitement and drama are still guaranteed! The Genesis Invitational is one of the few big tournaments that still has a cut, which means the competition is going to be fierce!
Being a Signature event the field will be small, which will make it quite a tough competition. This decision has been met with approval from many golf fans, who love the excitement and drama that comes with players battling to make the cut on Friday afternoon. In fact, the cut rule is simple yet thrilling: the top 50 players and ties will make it through to the weekend after 36 holes, with any players within ten strokes of the cut line also getting to play on. This format ensures that around 55-60 players will make the cut, leaving only a handful to pack their bags early, and setting the stage for an electrifying weekend of golf.
With a field size of 72 players, the competition is going to be fierce, and every shot will count. The Genesis Invitational is one of the most prestigious events on the PGA Tour, and the inclusion of a cut only adds to the excitement and challenge of the tournament. As Tiger Woods, the host of the Genesis Invitational, said last year, “I certainly am pushing for my event to have a cut.” It’s clear that the Genesis Invitational is committed to maintaining the integrity and excitement of the game.

While a lot of big names are there at the tournament, like Scottie Scheffler who just got better from his ‘Ravioli’ injury, there is still one big name missing from the star-studded lineup.

Tiger Woods withdraws from The Genesis Invitational
Tiger Woods has made the difficult decision to withdraw from this week’s Genesis Invitational, citing that he is still processing the loss of his mother, Kultida, who passed away on February 4th. Despite initial plans to participate in the event at Torrey Pines, Woods confessed on social media that he’s “just not ready” to return to golf. He expressed his gratitude for the outpouring of support and kindness since his mother’s passing and hinted that he might make an appearance at Torrey Pines later in the week. “I planned to tee it up this week, but I’m just not ready. I did my best to prepare, knowing it’s what my mom would have wanted, but I’m still processing her loss”, wrote Woods.
This withdrawal marks a significant setback for Woods, who has been struggling to regain his form since sustaining severe injuries in a car accident in February 2021. Woods’s absence from the Genesis Invitational is a poignant reminder of the challenges he’s faced in recent years. The 15-time major champion has not played a PGA Tour event since last year’s Open at Royal Troon in July and has undergone multiple surgeries, including one on his lower back in September. Despite these setbacks, Woods has remained committed to his foundation and his passion for golf. As the tournament host of the Genesis Invitational, which benefits his TGR Foundation, Woods’s presence will still be felt throughout the event, even if he’s not competing.
