The 2025 Farmers Insurance Open is the next PGA Tour event lined up for the season. Fans have been entertained by some amazing action right from The Sentry 2025. Hideki Matsuyama’s record-breaking performance in the season-opener has been the highlight of the PGA Tour so far. But a lot has happened after that.
Nick Taylor captured the Sony Open title. Sepp Straka is dominating the American Express. Fans are now excited to see what the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open has in store for them. So let’s take a look at 5 players who are favorites going into the 4th PGA Tour event of the 2025 season.

Having already captured a win in 2025, Hideki Matsuyama has been in great form so far. His domination in The Sentry 2025 helped him break the record of the all-time lowest score in a 72-hole PGA Tour event. Going into the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open, Matsuyama stands at the top of the FedEx Cup leaderboard. He would be very eager to add to his tally and gain an unreachable lead in the standings for the next few tournaments. Hence, there is no doubt that fans will watch Hideki Matsuyama go all in at the Torrey Pines Courses to try and win the 2nd title of the season.

Ludvig Aberg
Ludvig Aberg has had a less-than-ideal start to the PGA Tour season. Despite an excellent 9-under par 64 in the last round of The Sentry 2025, he finished 11 strokes short of Matsuyama on the table. He has since not played in any other PGA Tour or DP World Tour event. Aberg will be eager to find his form and dominate an event again. Especially because he has not won a single PGA Tour title since 2023. The Farmers Insurance Open is the perfect stage for the Swedish pro to do so. He finished at T9 in the tournament last year. This time, he would be targeting winning at the Torrey Pines.
Justin Rose
Justin Rose won the 2019 Farmers Insurance Open in a convincing fashion. He was up against a strong field, with the likes of Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, Xander Schauffele, and Hideki Matsuyama. All of them were as eager to lift the title on Saturday as Rose. However, across the 4 rounds of the event, the 2013 U.S. Open winner managed to score 21-under par 267. Interestingly, he became the fan favorite to win the event right after the 1st hole on the 1st day as he hit an eagle to open the tournament. While fans may not see him as a contender for the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open, if he manages to sink another eagle in the 1st hole on Wednesday, then they will surely have his back to lift the title on Saturday.
Max Homa
Max Homa has just come off a fun and exciting match in the TGL where his teammate ‘almost killed somebody’. But he will be in serious mode when he enters the Torrey Pines Courses for the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open on January 22. Homa is certainly familiar with the course and the event as he has previously won it back in 2022. That was the same year Collin Morikawa finished 3rd on the leaderboard. Apart from being a previous winner, Max Homa is also close friends with his Jupiter Links GC teammate, Tiger Woods. The GOAT has won this tournament 7 times in the past. Homa will certainly be taking inspiration from that and trying to grab the 2nd Farmers Insurance Open of his career.

Jason Day
Just like Max Homa, Jason Day has also won the event before. The only difference is, he has done it twice. Day won the Farmers Insurance Open in 2015 and 2018. On both occasions, the tournament went into playoffs against 3 and 2 competitors respectively. Perhaps, his playoff loss in the 2014 Farmers Insurance Open gave him the experience he needed to win it the next time he reached the stage. Aiming for his 3rd victory in the tournament, Jason Day is definitely a favorite to win the event on Saturday.
There are a couple of other past winners who are also on the entry list for the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open. Luke List, Brandt Snedeker, and the defending champion Matthieu Pavon will be eager to grab their 2nd win in the tournament as well. It will be interesting to see how every one of them performs in the tournament on January 22, 2025.
