In the 2024 season, the PGA Tour and the weather have had an unbreakable bond. Not in a good way, for sure. At many events, inclement weather created havoc and the PGA Tour had to suspend the round or even cancel the final round of the event. For example, the final round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am was canceled due to storms, and when the final round of Cognizant Classic was delayed to Monday.
Will a similar thing happen at the Shriners Children’s Open? On the final round of the Shriners Children’s Open, the weather will be softer for the fans and the PGA Tour. There sky will be clear, the sun will be all out and the breeze will be cool as the golfers tee up on the first hole.
The temperature will be in the low fifties at the start of the day but as the day progresses it will go from 58F in the morning to 73F by the time the clock hits 6 p.m. And if you are wondering about any rain or showers disrupting the play, leave your rain gear at home because there will be a 0% chance of precipitation at the TPC Summerlin.

As for the wind? That will be in the low numbers too between 5 to 10 mph throughout. Everything looks fine according to the weather forecast, which suggests that the Shriners Children’s Open will conclude smoothly. But over the first three days, it has been anything but smooth for the PGA Tour and the golfers at TPC Summerlin.

What issue has been persistent at the 2024 Shriners Children’s Open?
In all three rounds of the Shriners Children’s Open, not even a single drop of rain touched TPC Summerlin. Yet, all three rounds were not finished on time and were suspended. What was the culprit behind it? On the opening day of the event, the PGA Tour temporarily suspended the round at 6:13 p.m. PT because of darkness. Yes, it got so dark at the TPC Summerlin once evening started that the golfers could not play their shots normally.

Then, in the next round, the round 1 resumption and the round 2 start were delayed by four hours because the wind at the course was between 20-35 mph with gusts over 40 mph. Additionally, even after the round was resumed, because of safety purposes, the PGA Tour didn’t open the gate for the general public on Friday and the golfers played without anyone in the gallery.

It was starting to look like a disaster but fans were hopeful that the day would be without any delays. However, to everyone’s dismay at 6:02, the second round was suspended. The third round faced the same fate as it was suspended too due to darkness and the play was announced to resume on Sunday at 8:00 a.m. This three-day delay pushed the Sunday tee times to start at 11:00 a.m. instead of the usual 9 a.m.
With the round starting late, and the sunset predicted to be at 5:57 p.m., the final round will likely be pushed to another day and the Shriners Children’s Open may get finished on Monday. If it happens, it remains to be seen.
